Educators, researchers and employees at the Department of Education say that the Trump administration’s slashing of federal bureaucracies and workforces has significantly weakened special education enforcement and killed programs meant to help students with disabilities.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) is pushing back on criticism from Republicans claiming she mocked Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) wheelchair use while giving a speech over the weekend. 

While speaking at the Human Rights Campaign LA dinner on Saturday, Crockett referred to Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” who is a “hot a— mess.”

She did so in public remarks she gave at an event for the left-wing Human Rights Campaign. 

“We in these hot a** Texas streets, honey,” she said at an event for the left-wing Human Rights Campaign. “Y’all know we got governor hot wheels down there, c’mon now! And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot a** mess, honey!”

“I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition – I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable,” Crockett dubiously wrote Tuesday on social media.

The Social Security Administration is reinstating its plan to reclaim 100% of overpayments made to beneficiaries — a ten-fold jump from the current rate, the agency announced Friday.

By asking for 100% of overpayments to be repaid by recipients, the agency could save about $7 billion over the next decade, the Office of the Chief Actuary estimated. The new rate will take effect March 27.

Maureen Stanko always felt her son, Nick, had so much to give. Nick is 20 and is on the autism spectrum and despite her knowing he had so much to give, what he would do after graduation kept his mom up at night.

"I was lying in bed one night at 3 a.m. I was thinking about, 'Oh man, what's going to happen to him.' You know? It's like it's coming, it's like impending now," Stanko told CBS News.

Neuralink, the neurotech startup co-founded by Elon Musk, announced Thursday it has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration to conduct its first in-human clinical study.

Neuralink is building a brain implant called the Link, which aims to help patients with severe paralysis control external technologies using only neural signals. This means patients with severe degenerative diseases like ALS could eventually regain their ability to communicate with loved ones by moving cursors and typing with their minds.

Elon Musk’s company Neuralink announced Thursday that it received approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct its first-in-human clinical study.

"We are excited to share that we have received the FDA’s approval to launch our first-in-human clinical study," the company said in a tweet.

Musk helped co-found Neuralink, a neurotechnology company working to develop brain implants that could someday help people who are paralyzed walk again, as well as help with other neurological issues.
