Every community has charitable nonprofit organizations that help people navigate difficult situations. Some of those local, compassionate outreaches, however, are being bullied.

An unintended pregnancy is an unexpected battleground across the United States. Every woman should be loved and supported in her pregnancy. Compassionate help dedicated to encouraging women with unplanned pregnancies to say yes to their babies is not something that should be controversial.

A 48-year-old woman in the Houston, Texas area was arrested for allegedly providing illegal abortions, according to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Maria Margarita Rojas, a midwife, allegedly operates a network of clinics that provide abortions in Houston. She was taken into custody in Waller County and charged with the illegal performance of an abortion, a second-degree felony, as well as practicing medicine without a license (via Attorney General of Texas).

Texas AttorĀney GenĀerĀal Ken PaxĀton (R) announced Tuesday that two more individuals have been arrested on charges they provided illegal abortions, apparently in connection to the midwife who was arrested this week on the same charges.

A Texas midwife has been arrested and charged on allegations that she performed illegal abortions, the state’s Attorney General Ken Paxton announced on Monday.

Maria Margarita Rojas, 48, faces one charge of illegally performing an abortion, as well as a charge of practicing medicine without a license, according to a news release from Paxton's office. Court records obtained by USA TODAY show that Rojas was officially charged on March 12 for practicing medicine without a license, a third-degree felony.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a Houston-area midwife has been arrested and charged with providing an abortion as part of a crackdown on clinics that are alleged to provide abortion services.

Maria Margarita Rojas, 48, also known as ā€œDr. Maria,ā€ is also charged with practicing medicine without a license.

Investigators allege Rojas owned several clinics and employed unlicensed individuals who posed as medical professionals. The Texas attorney general’s office also filed for a temporary restraining order to shut down the clinics...

President Donald Trump might go down in history as the best thing that ever happened to legal abortion in the United States.

That’s because Trump, by muzzling pro-life leaders and championing states’ rights on abortion following his efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade, cultivated a political environment in which the practice of legal abortion has flourished. Two-and-a-half years following the fall of Roe, abortion rights have never been more protected in all but a handful of states, and public support for legal abortion has never been stronger.

Every single Senate Democrat voted against a measure on Wednesday that would have required life-saving treatment for babies who have been born alive after surviving an abortion.

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act failed because three-fifths of the Senate majority, or 60 votes, were not acquired. The motion to move the bill forward, a process known as cloture, failed with a vote of 52-47.

House Republicans on Thursday passed their version of a ā€œborn-aliveā€ abortion bill one day after Democrats blocked the Senate version from advancing.

The bill requires health care practitioners to provide the ā€œsame degree of professional skill, care, and diligenceā€ for a child born alive during an attempted abortion as they would during normal childbirth.

Republicans have framed the bill as not being anti-abortion but anti-infanticide. Democrats have criticized the legislation...
