The clip is from 2021. Project 2025 was not created until April 2022, with the project’s Mandate for Leadership published in 2023.

Former President Donald Trump has lately been trying to distance himself from Project 2025, claiming it was cooked up by the “severe right” and that he doesn’t know anything about it.

But it turns out the severe right is coming from inside the house.

Kevin Roberts, the self-proclaimed “head” of Project 2025, has a book coming out in September — and the book’s foreword is written by Trump’s vice presidential candidate, J.D. Vance, who lavishly praises its ideas.

Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, recently named as Donald Trump’s running mate, wrote the foreword to Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts’ forthcoming book, Dawn’s Early Light: Taking Back Washington to Save America, the proceeds for which will partly benefit Heritage.

Vice President Harris on Tuesday held her first campaign event as the lead contender for the top of Democratic presidential ticket, rallying supporters in key state Wisconsin around beating former President Trump in November.

She was met with a loud and excited crowd in the Milwaukee area where bystanders outside the venue where she spoke held up signs that said “We love u Kamala.” Another sign said “Kamala Harris changes lives. Watch her change the world.”

Former President Trump said on Saturday that he “took a bullet for democracy” after he was shot in the ear during an assassination attempt against his life last week.

“…They’re seriously extreme, but I don’t know anything about it,” Trump said during a rally in Grand Rapids, Mich., while speaking about Project 2025. 

Former President Trump, speaking at his first rally since surviving an attempted assassination, said that "he took a bullet for democracy" last weekend, while also taking numerous jabs at President Biden.

Why it matters: Trump, who called for national unity in the immediate aftermath of the assassination attempt, repeated many of the common refrains during his rally in Michigan that have become staples in his campaign speeches.

In one of the more interesting moments of the first night of the Republican National Convention, South Carolina’s Sen. Tim Scott claimed that former President Donald Trump surviving Saturday’s assassination attempt was nothing short of a miracle.

“Our God still delivers, and he still sets free. Because the devil came to Pennsylvania holding a rifle, but the American lion got back up on his feet,” Scott said, following up the sermon with a roar into the microphone. The crowd roared right along with him.

A set of conservative policy proposals known as Project 2025 has become a lightning rod for opponents of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump as they seek to highlight what they say are the dangers of him retaking the White House.

Trump has recently tried to distance himself from Project 2025, even though many of his closest policy advisers are deeply involved. The campaign of Democratic President Joe Biden says the project is proof that Trump would adopt a series of authoritarian and hard-right policies if elected.
