A slew of elected officials blasted ā€œdeath to Americaā€ chants at a pro-Palestinian rally last week in Dearborn, Michigan, but Rep. Rashida Tlaib wasn’t one of them. The Democrat Tlaib has not commented publicly on the anti-American rhetoric at the Al-Quds Day event in her district. She also refused to answer when asked repeatedly Thursday by a Fox News reporter if she denounced the slogans, saying, ā€œI don’t talk to Fox News.ā€ The congresswoman’s stiff-arm drew an outraged response from other members of Congress. ā€œAfter refusing to condemn Hamas murdering...

Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) faced backlash online after attempting to commemorate Hanukkah on Thursday.

The Jewish holiday began Thursday evening and will continue until Dec. 15. Both Democratic members took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to wish a happy holiday to their Jewish followers and constituents.

"Happy first night of Hanukkah to our Jewish siblings in the MA7 & across the world," Pressley wrote. "The celebration carries extra meaning for so many this year, and I wish everyone light, joy, and peace this holiday season."

Twenty-two Democrats voted Tuesday to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) for her criticism of Israel following Hamas’s deadly attack last month.

The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.), accused Tlaib of ā€œpromoting false narratives regarding the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and for calling for the destruction of the state of Israel.ā€ It also references her use over the weekend of the controversial phrase ā€œfrom the river to the sea,ā€ which is considered by many to be antisemitic.

On Tuesday evening, hours after the House voted against tabling the motion to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), the chamber formally voted to do just that. The vote was initially supposed to be on Wednesday, but was moved to Tuesday night not long before it took place. In a bipartisan vote of 234-188, the House voted to censure Tlaib for her anti-semitic and anti-Israel remarks following the October 7 terrorist attack that Hamas perpetrated against Israel. Twenty-two Democrats crossed the aisle to vote to censure one of their own.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) teared up Tuesday as she defended herself against a second effort to censure her for recent criticisms of Israel’s violence in the Gaza Strip.

The current resolution, introduced by Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA), is designed to censure her for ā€œpromoting false narratives regarding the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and for calling for the destruction of the state of Israel,ā€ including using the highly-disputed phrase ā€œfrom the river to the sea.ā€

"From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free."

At pro-Palestine protests and in activist spaces, it's a rather common refrain, referring to the entirety of the land from the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea — land that includes Israel, the occupied West Bank, and Gaza.

But some Israelis and Jewish people argue that the phrase has a far more sinister meaning — and Rep. Rashida Tlaib's defense of the term is generating significant controversy for the Michigan Democrat within her own party.

Representative Rashida Tlaib, a Michigan Democrat, received backlash on social media from fellow politicians and organizations that fight against antisemitism after posting a video on Friday that featured the chant, "from the river to the sea" as the Israel-Hamas war continues.
