I had the pleasure of being contacted by Reuters Fact Check last week, with a demand that I explain and justify a headline on a story I wrote about COVID vaccines. I immediately started laughing.

Why?

Well, I should probably explain Reuters Fact Check first.

Donald Trump is demanding that Elon Musk recover millions the federal government paid to Reuters over the course of four years for a mysterious 'social engineering defense' program.

The years-old contract was discovered by Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and reveals that the Department of Defense awarded Thomson Reuters Special Services, LLC (TRSS) a contract worth approximately $9.15 million.

May 7 (Reuters) - Brazil's bid to host the 2027 Women's World Cup scored higher than its rival, a joint bid from Belgium, Netherlands and Germany, in a FIFA's evaluation report released on Tuesday. The world soccer governing body bid report came ahead of the vote at the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok on May 17, which will decide where the next Women's World Cup will be held. Last week, Mexico and the United States withdrew from the 2027 race to focus their efforts on hosting the 2031 tournament. Based...

May 7 (Reuters) - Levi Strauss (LEVI.N) has ended its lawsuit accusing the Italian luxury fashion brand Brunello Cucinelli (BCU.MI) of infringing its familiar, trademarked rectangular pocket tab. Levi notified a federal judge in Oakland, California on Tuesday that it was dismissing the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be brought again. Settlement talks began shortly after Levi sued in January. Neither Levi nor its lawyers immediately responded to requests for comment. A Brunello Cucinelli spokeswoman had no immediate comment.

May 7 (Reuters) - Fintech firm Jack Henry & Associates (JKHY.O) on Tuesday raised its full-year profit forecast and reported a near 7% rise in third-quarter profit, helped by a strong performance in its processing as well as services and support segments. Financial technology and payments companies' products, which include lending, consulting, payments and digital banking, have seen resilient demand against an uncertain economic backdrop. The company now expects 2024 earnings per share to be between $5.15 and $5.19, up from its prior forecast of $5.09 to $5.13.

A headline from a satirical website suggesting that American actor Denzel Washington refused to work with Disney because the company was “woke” has been shared as authentic news on social media. A spokesperson for the actor said in an email that the reports are “not true.” The image with the headline “Denzel Washington Refuses To Work For Disney ‘They're A Woke Company’,” was posted on social media along with captions by users sharing it as real news, including “Denzel Washington is a smart man. Disney is trash now. I hate...
