The acquisition of Budapest Airport could conclude "within days", Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in parliament on Monday, signalling an end to months of negotiations with majority owner AviAlliance.

Since Orban took power in 2010, his government has boosted Hungarian ownership in energy, banking, telecoms and the media, and has been planning to buy the airport for years.

"We hope that within days, the airport... will be owned in majority by the state", he said. Hungary's government submitted its binding offer in September 2023.

An effort that could effectively ban TikTok in the U.S. received bipartisan support in the House this week, with 352 representatives approving a bill that would "incentivize divestment of TikTok" by threatening to exclude it from mobile app stores in the United States.

The challenges facing families with young children are legion.

From affording the costly basics — like diapers, clothes and food — to the exhausting search for high-quality, reasonably priced child care, parents and caregivers have their hands full. And it's hard to imagine government, as polarized as it is, agreeing on anything that might help.

And yet. A new report suggests there are bold moves that folks across the political spectrum can agree on.

America’s financial mismanagement has gotten so bad that some say our country’s decline is now inevitable, drawing parallels to the Roman Empire’s collapse. That comparison is unfair for two reasons. First, Rome had good roads that lasted over a millennium. Second, and more seriously, America has changed course before and hopefully still has time to do so again.

The Biden administration’s $42.5 billion high-speed internet program favors heavily Democrat regions and remote vacation homes, including President Joe Biden’s home state of Delaware, according to a new report by Republicans on the Senate Commerce Committee.

The Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment program, known as BEAD, designated as ā€œunservedā€ locations places that include mansions, beachfront resort communities, and mountain vacation homes, the report says.

Two senators released a bipartisan framework for artificial intelligence (AI) legislation Friday as Congress ramps up efforts to regulate the novel technology.

The proposal from Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) calls for requiring AI companies to apply for licensing and clarifying that a tech liability shield would not protect those companies from lawsuits.

If Artificial Intelligence were an angel, there’d be no need for its governance. That’s a 21st-century updating of James Madison’s famous dictum from the 18th century: In Federalist 51 he wrote, ā€œIf men were angels, no government would be necessary.ā€ Nothing man-made is angelic. A.I. is no exception.
