The New York criminal trial of former President Donald Trump is well underway, and recent testimony has shined a spotlight on an often-maligned practice of journalism: "catch-and-kill." The practice, while having been used for years, has seen a resurgence in the headlines after testimony in the Trump trial by David Pecker, the former publisher of the tabloid magazine the National Enquirer. While generally looked down upon by reporters at major news organizations, catch-and-kill journalism — and the overall practice of paying sources for stories — remains commonplace in the tabloid...

This week, Kristen Stewart appeared on the cover of PORTER magazine, and, as we’ve all come to expect of a KStew cover story, she looked super hot and said some very astute, deliciously acerbic things about Hollywood. The interview has Stewart mostly sounding off on movie-making, from the success of her latest film, Love Lies Bleeding (“I think we were shocked that we could even get this made”) to the kinds of stories she suspects film-goers want to see (“I think maybe people wanna watch movies about, like, Jesus and...

Kelly Clarkson took on another iconic hit on Friday’s episode of her talk show. During her Kellyoke segment, the host delivered a cover of Chaka Khan‘s Grammy winning song “Ain’t Nobody” — the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s 1983 track with Rufus from their live album, Stompin’ at the Savoy. “Ain’t nobody/Loves me better/Makes me happy/Makes me feel this way,” Clarkson belted out while backed by My Band Y’all. When looking back at her legacy, Khan told Rolling Stone in a December 2023 interview that she “never, ever once...

Chlöe has released a new single, “Boy Bye,” along with a desert-set music video for the track directed by C&P. The song, produced by Yeti Beats, RogĂ©t Chahayed, Carter Lang, and Kurtis McKenzie, arrives on the heels of her March single “FYS.” “‘Boy Bye’ is an anthem for anyone who needs to get rid of someone toxic and draining from their life,” the singer said in a statement. “It’s liberating and free. That’s how it feels to finally let go of dead weight that’s been keeping you down. Instead of...

Dua Lipa is in album-release mode with less than a month to go until the arrival of her third studio LP Radical Optimism on May 3. She first gave a taste of what’s to come late last year with lead single “Houdini” and followed it up with “Training Season” earlier this year. Now, the album’s latest single “Illusion” is available for fans to hear. Like “Houdini” and “Training Season,” Lipa teamed up with with Caroline Ailin, Danny L Harle, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker to help write...

We all know that Rolling Stone’s UVA story is a complete disaster. Though have no fear; Rolling Stone writer Sabrina Rubin Erdely, who botched the original story, is re-reporting
on her own discredited piece.

As the Rolling Stone UVA story continues to disintegrate, they weren't the only publication that had a really bad week; it was the liberal media in general. First, let's discuss the Rolling Stone fiasco. They added to their "note to our readers" after other media outlets, namely the Washington Post, eviscerated them when it was discovered that Sabrina Rubin Erdely, who wrote the UVA piece, didn't contact the alleged attackers of Jackie; the central figure of the article who alleges she was gang raped at a Phi Kappa Psi party.

It was a brutal story of a premeditated gang rape at one of America’s most prestigious universities — and on Friday, the magazine that published it admitted the story might not be true.

One journalist’s coverage of the saga has been drawing particular fire.

Anna Merlan, a writer for the feminist blog Jezebel, initially defended Rolling Stone’s feature story about a gang rape at a University of Virginia fraternity house — “A Rape on Campus” — vocifer

Rolling Stone's high-profile story about sexual assault on campus appears to be falling apart in the wake of serious questions raised about a horrifying alleged gang-rape used as its central example.

It is a depressing certainty that this story will be used for years to come as a defense by those who do not want to believe rape victims' allegations. But that is the wrong lesson to draw. Rather, this story should be a reminder of how difficult it is to accurately report on traumatic events — and the heightened ethical responsibilities that fall on journalists who do so.
