Creditors want to force Rudy Giuliani to sell his $3.5 million Florida condo to help pay his significant debts, according to a court document filed on Friday.

The former New York City mayor filed for bankruptcy protection in December, citing myriad unpaid debts including a $148 million payment to two Georgia election poll workers who he falsely claimed had tampered with the 2020 election ballots while he was serving as a lawyer for former President Donald Trump.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani admitted he could use the pension he never applied for.

Giuliani told the New York Post that he was "giving back to the city I love" when he declined to apply for a pension. From 1981 to 1983, he worked as the assistant United States Attorney General before becoming U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York until 1989 and serving as mayor from 1994 to 2001.

"Although I would like to take it now,ā€ Giuliani said of his pension. ā€œI don’t know how to go about it.ā€

Rudy Giuliani, a longtime associate of former President Donald Trump, has filed for bankruptcy just days after he was ordered to pay $148m (Ā£116m) in a defamation case.

He was ordered to pay the sum after a judge found he defamed two Georgia election workers over false claims they tampered with votes in 2020.

The filing shows he owes millions of dollars in legal fees and unpaid taxes.

A spokesman said the move should "be a surprise to no-one".

Rudy Giuliani filed for bankruptcy on Thursday, acknowledging severe financial strain exacerbated by his pursuit of Donald Trump false 2020 election claims and a jury’s award of $148 million to two former Georgia election workers he defamed.

The former New York City mayor listed nearly $153 million in existing or potential debts, including almost $1 million in tax liabilities, money he owes lawyers and many millions of dollars in potential legal judgments in lawsuits against him. He estimated he had assets in the range of $1 million to $10 million.

Last week, a jury in Washington, D.C., awarded $148 million to Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss, after a judge had established that Giuliani was liable for defamation earlier this year for baselessly accusing the two women of trying to subvert the 2020 presidential election. They noted that Donald Trump’s former personal attorney ā€œappears to have no assets in the District of Columbia but substantial assets in — at least — both New York and Florida.ā€ Howell agreed with the plaintiffs’ characterization of Giuliani as an ā€œuncooperative litigant,ā€ and...

Rudy Giuliani must immediately pay $148 million to two Georgia election workers he defamed, with a federal judge suggesting the former New York mayor may have been dishonest about his finances and expressing concern he might not comply with the judgment. The latest twist in the defamation case comes just days after Giuliani was ordered to pay $148 million to the two women, Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea "Shaye" Moss. Giuliani had falsely claimed in the wake of the 2020 presidential election that they engaged in a fake ballot...

A judge rules Rudy Giuliani must immediately pay $148 million to two election workers Though the defamation trial is over between former Trump campaign attorney Rudy Giuliani and two former election workers he was ordered to pay $148 million, fallout from the case is still following him. District Judge Beryl Howell ruled Wednesday that Giuliani must immediately pay the sum an eight-person jury awarded last week. A few days before that, the women sued Giuliani again, asking the the courts to permanently ban him from speaking about them. Giuliani accused...

Former Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss can immediately seek enforcement of their $146 million financial judgment against Rudy Giuliani because there is good reason to assume he will not comply, a federal judge ruled Wednesday. ā€œGiuliani’s failure to ā€˜satisfy even more modest monetary awards entered earlier in this case,’ provides good cause to believe that he will seek to dissipate or conceal his assets during the 30-day period,ā€ U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell wrote in her order. The decision allows Freeman and Moss to go after Giuliani's...
