Former Republican Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has lost her defamation suit retrial against the New York Times.

The federal jury ruled after just two hours of deliberation on Tuesday that the New York Times was not guilty of libel when it falsely linked her to a 2011 mass shooting in an editorial it published in 2017. Per Axios:

Throughout this trial and the original 2022 trial, the Times asserted that the inaccurate link made in the editorial was a mistake.

A federal jury in Manhattan on Tuesday found the New York Times (NYT.N), opens new tab not liable for allegedly defaming Sarah Palin in a 2017 editorial about gun control, dealing the former Republican U.S. vice presidential candidate a second loss at trial.

The verdict came in a retrial of Palin's case, after a federal appeals court threw out a 2022 verdict in the Times' favor.

Former Alaska Republican Governor Sarah Palin has called on her fellow GOP House candidate Nick Begich to drop out of the November midterm race.

Palin made the plea during a Monday news conference following a loss to Democrat Mary Peltola in the state’s special House election to replace Republican Rep. Don Young, who passed away earlier this year.

The race in The Last Frontier was the first federal test of the state’s unusual voting system that is gaining influence across the country. 

Sarah Palin has lost a special congressional election in Alaska, in a district that was Republican-held for nearly five decades.

The winner, Democrat Mary Peltola, will be the first Alaskan Native to serve as a lawmaker in Congress for the state.

The race was to fill a vacancy left after the former officeholder died. The seat is up for grabs again in November.

Former Alaska governor Ms Palin, 58, rose to prominence as a vice-presidential candidate in 2008.

Democrat Mary Peltola won the US House special election for Alaska's at-large US House seat, vacated by the death of longtime Rep. Don Young in March.

Peltola's win makes her the first-ever woman to represent Alaska in the US House, the first Alaska Native person to serve in Congress, and the first Democrat to represent Alaska in the House since 1972.
