Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and Sen. John Thune (S.D.), the No. 2-ranking member of the Senate GOP leadership, are staying quiet on the state Supreme Court ruling barring former President Trump from the Colorado ballot.

McConnell and Thune have held back from endorsing Trump, despite his commanding lead in the polls, and at various points have suggested that his lack of appeal to suburban swing voters and college-educated women would be a problem in a general election.

Senate Republicans on Monday recoiled at former President Trump’s comments at a rally in New Hampshire over the weekend, where he said the thousands of immigrants streaming into the United States on a daily basis are ā€œpoisoning the blood of our country.ā€

They also balked at Trump quoting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s criticism of the American political system as a defense against the 91 felony counts he is facing in Washington, D.C., Miami and New York.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke to senators on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, as lawmakers and now the White House find themselves increasingly in a battle over passing bills to provide aid to Israel, provide aid to Ukraine, and secure the southern border. Zelensky's appearance looks to have done little to move Republicans though in their determination to handle the border crisis. In fact, even those in favor of providing aid to Ukraine don't seem to have wavered when it comes to acknowledging what priorities are in place.

Senate Republicans on the eve of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky’s arrival in Washington are casting increasing doubt they will reach a deal unlocking aid to his country by the end of the year.

Help for Ukraine is linked to talks on a border deal, and senators on Monday said they were no closer to reaching an agreement on the issue, which would push work on the $111 billion package requested by President Biden into 2024. The package was to cover money for Ukraine, Israel, the border and other priorities.

Senate Republicans who are concerned about former President Trump’s viability in a general election now see Nikki Haley as the last, best chance of denying Trump the GOP presidential nomination and averting what they see as a potential general election disaster.

GOP senators who don’t support Trump acknowledge he could win the presidency, given President Biden’s weak job approval ratings, but they view Haley as much more electable because she does not alienate independent and suburban women voters like Trump does.

A group of 22 Senate Republicans has urged U.S. President Joe Biden not to make any concessions on Taiwan when he meets with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, on Wednesday.

"Few issues are more urgent than ensuring Taiwan has the capabilities and training it needs to deter Chinese aggression," said the statement spearheaded by Sen. Jim Risch (R-ID), the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's ranking member.

More than a dozen Republican Senators are demanding President Biden finally give an answer for why he allowed a Chinese spy balloon to float across the continental U.S. earlier this year.

Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Vice Chairman Marco Rubio, R-FL, Senate Committee on Armed Services Ranking Member Roger Wicker, R-MS, said in a new letter that Biden has yet to give a public accounting of the "flagrant violation of U.S. sovereignty."

Senate conservatives are putting pressure on Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) to hold the line with Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and demand that any bill to raise the debt ceiling also include major fiscal reforms.
