Seven people have been shot dead at a synagogue in East Jerusalem, the most killed in an attack of this kind for years. At least three more people were injured.

The incident happened in the city's Neve Yaakov neighbourhood at around 20:15 local time (18:15 GMT).

Police described the attacker as a "terrorist" and said he had been "neutralised".

Local media identified him as a Palestinian man from East Jerusalem.

Speaking at the scene, Israeli police commissioner Kobi Shabtai called it "one of the worst attacks we have encountered in recent years".

Some of the most violent crimes in America are carried out by the youngest members of society, and those who deal with youth offenders say the trend won’t reverse anytime soon.

Police in Memphis, Tennessee, arrested a 19-year-old repeat offender suspected of shooting and killing four people and injuring at least three others in a rampage on Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect, Ezekiel Kelly, is also accused of two armed carjackings that happened as he attempted to flee from police. Authorities said the rampage was spread across at least eight different crime scenes.

The string of shootings were reportedly livestreamed on Facebook in the city Wednesday. The suspect was taken into custody following a major manhunt later that evening. 

A 19-year-old man was in custody in a series of shootings, including one broadcast on social media, that left four dead, three wounded and the city of Memphis on edge late Wednesday, police said.

The suspected shooter was identified by police as Ezekiel Dejuan Kelly. He was apprehended around 9:20 p.m., more than two hours after police issued an urgent warning that prompted calls for residents of the Tennessee city of around 630,000 to stay indoors.

Kelly was charged with first-degree murder early Thursday.

A gunman who livestreamed himself driving around Memphis shooting at people, killing four and wounding three others in seemingly random attacks, was finally arrested after crashing a stolen car, police said early Thursday.

The hours-long rampage had police warning people across the city to shelter in place, locking down a baseball stadium and university campuses and suspending public bus services as frightened residents wondered where the man might strike next.

The 18-year-old White man suspected of carrying out a racist mass shooting Saturday in a Buffalo, New York, supermarket was indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday, according to an affidavit from Erie County Assistant District Attorney Gary Hackbush.

The Erie County Grand Jury voted for an indictment against defendant Payton Gendron, "with regard to the felony complaint filed on or about May 14, 2022," the affidavit states. He previously pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder, and other charges are expected.

After a gunman killed 10 people at a Buffalo supermarket on Saturday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul publicly wondered why a state law designed to prohibit individuals like him from obtaining a gun didn’t work as intended.

In 2019, New York enacted an extreme risk prevention law, otherwise known as a “red flag law,” that can bar individuals who present an immediate danger to themselves or others from possessing firearms. The Buffalo shooter didn’t have a previous criminal record, but he had made serious threats of violence that were brought to the attention of police.

President Biden on Tuesday issued a forceful condemnation of the "hateful and perverse ideology" that he warned has seeped into the mainstream, calling the white supremacist views espoused by the suspected gunman who killed 10 people and wounded three more in a racially motivated massacre in Buffalo, New York, a "poison." 

In remarks to elected officials, first responders and the victims' families, Mr. Biden said the nation must not remain silent in the face of racist conspiracy theories, as doing so is "complicity."
