A growing number of companies are exploring the possibility of offering psychedelic drug therapy for their employees as a cost-saving and effective means of mental health treatment, according to a report. Recent research has shown that well-known party-drugs like MDMA [ecstasy], psilocybin [“magic” mushrooms] and ketamine — which has been legalized for medicinal use — are useful alternatives to treating a slew of mental health issues including depression, anxiety and PTSD.

Cathie Wood’s Ark Investment Management has announced that it holds a stake in Silicon Valley artificial intelligence darling OpenAI, a bet that the nascent AI industry will remake the tech landscape. In an email to clients Thursday, Ark said, “As of April 10, 2024, the Ark Venture Fund invests in OpenAI,” referring to its $54 million VC fund. “OpenAI is at the forefront of a Cambrian explosion in artificial intelligence capability,” the tech-focused asset manager said in the note. Launched in September 2022, the closed-end Ark fund invests in both...

Rapidus Corporation announced on Thursday that it had formed a new U.S. subsidiary, dubbed Rapidus Design Solutions (RDS), and opened an office in Santa Clara, California to better serve partners and potential future customers in the Americas. RDS will be led by Henri Richard, who will serve as general manager and president. Rapidus Corporation has been making a lot of news as of late. For those unfamiliar with Rapidus, it is a fledgling Japanese semiconductor company developing bleeding-edge semiconductor manufacturing and adjacent technologies.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced Tuesday that he had selected wealthy Bay Area attorney and philanthropist Nicole Shanahan as his vice-presidential running mate.

Shanahan, the 38-year-old daughter of a Chinese immigrant who grew up in Oakland, California, and was previously married to Google co-founder Sergey Brin, is a major Kennedy backer. She gave $4 million to a pro-Kennedy super PAC, American Values 2024, to air the retro-style Super Bowl ad that conjured the 1960 campaign of Kennedy’s uncle, former President John F. Kennedy.

Nicole Shanahan, a patent attorney specializing in technology and the former wife of Google founder Sergey Brin, has been named Robert F. Kennedy Jr's. vice presidential running mate.

"I want somebody who will look out for young people and not treat them as if they're invisible," Kennedy said in an interview with Newsweek. "She's just 38 years old; she comes from technology and understands social media."

Independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced on Tuesday that Silicon Valley lawyer Nicole Shanahan will be his 2024 running mate for president.

Kennedy had also been considering New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura, as well as several others like former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, according to The New York Times. The Democrat-turned-independent revealed that Shanahan is his vice presidential pick during a speech in Oakland, California.

The sudden ouster of CEO Sam Altman from OpenAI, the hottest startup in artificial intelligence, by the organization’s board has roiled the tech world.

In doing so, it has also highlighted the extraordinary power that the culture and characters of Silicon Valley consumer-tech startups now wield over the development of strategically vital technologies.

Struggling with rampant homelessness, a drug crisis, surging crime and several business closures, San Francisco is no longer the thriving city it used to be. Its decline in recent months has led some to say the city "is dying"—especially as its citizens move elsewhere.

A quarter of a million people have reportedly fled the Bay Area since the beginning of 2020. According to U.S. Census estimates, San Francisco's population dropped by 7.2 percent between 2020 and 2021 and by 0.3 percent between 2021 and 2022.
