A Halloween party on the northeast side of Indianapolis that ended in deadly gunfire early Sunday was promoted through the social media app Snapchat, according to investigators. A 16-year-old girl was killed and nine other people, including five juveniles, were injured in the shooting at a business park in the 5100 block of East 65th Street. The gunfire occurred inside a hair salon as well as out in the parking lot, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. “These kinds of parties, these kinds of incidents occur and people need...

Once again, Snapchat has become the platform of proof that anyone under the impression that racism is going to die out with older generations of white people is in for a rude awakening. It appears that white kids still view Snapchat as the perfect gathering space for Caucasian teens in predominately Caucasian school districts who stage mock slave auctions and George Floyd reenactments, use racial slurs, call for a return to slavery and for the deaths of all Black people, and, apparently, advocate for lynchings. EDINA, Minn. — Police say a Minneapolis boy's social media account made him easy to track down after some troubling threats. Edina High School and Valley View Middle School switched to online learning Friday because a 17-year-old posted a video of himself on Snapchat in the schools' parking lot holding a gun. Investigators say that Snapchat account was registered to an email address, which was in the boy's name. Police say he claims his account was hacked. He's now facing two felony charges: threats of violence, and possessing a weapon...

Rafael Carter Wesley, 19, Kyrees Darious Johnson, 23, and Avont Akira Drayton, 22, each face one count of unlawful possession of machine guns. In March 2023, authorities began investigating a Snapchat group — called "BLICCS&STICCS3" — that they suspected of trafficking machineguns, firearms, and drugs in the Twin Cities metro area. Screenshots and videos showed people in the group selling devices that convert pistols and rifles into a fully automatic machinegun, according to authorities.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Three local men have been arrested following the disruption of an online machinegun distribution network. Rafael Carter Wesley, 19, Kyrees Darious Johnson, 22, and Avont Akira Drayton, 21, face charges of unlawful possession of machineguns. According to U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger, law enforcement detected a Snapchat group named “BLICCS&STICCS3,” which was suspected of being used to facilitate the trafficking of machineguns, firearms, and controlled substances. Documents reveal that undercover officers joined the group in March.

Three men from the Twin Cities have been charged, accused of operating a machine gun distribution ring using Snapchat, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. A press release on Friday said law enforcement disrupted a social media-based machinegun distribution ring that resulted in charges against three men: Rafael Carter Wesley, 19; Kyrees Darious Johnson, 22; and Avont Akira Drayton, 21. They are each charged with one count of unlawful possession of machine guns. The U.S. Attorney's Office, citing court documents, said in March, authorities learned of a Snapchat group called...

Utah is the first state in the nation to begin restricting how minors can use social media apps. Gov. Spencer Cox signed a pair of bills on Thursday that will regulate when and how minors in Utah can use of social media and aims to stop those companies from designing addicting features.

Those new laws will likely lead to a protracted legal fight with the tech industry over privacy and First Amendment issues.

SB152 from Sen. Mike McKell, R-Spanish Fork, will slap several regulations on social media companies on March 1, 2024. Those rules include:
