Online forum Reddit went down on Monday for thousands of users across the world.

On its status page, Reddit said it was investigating elevated errors across its website and the app.

Over 112,400 users reported that the platform was down at 11.39 a.m. ET, according to Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from various sources.

It appears the forum has since come back online, although no explanation has been given for the outage.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.

Starting today, Bluesky is rolling out a new verification system, complete with the familiar blue check marks popularized by Twitter. The social platform, which has experienced rapid growth since it opened to the public in early 2024, formerly relied on an unconventional self-verification system where users could ā€œauthenticateā€ themselves by including custom domains in their web handles. Now, it’s adopting a more proactive and traditional verification strategy, with the Bluesky team identifying notable accounts and bestowing blue check marks.

Meta is using AI technology to search for kids who are lying about their age on Instagram in order to bypass safeguards, the company announced on Monday. When Meta finds an account that it suspects belongs to a teen, the platform will enroll them into a restricted Teen Account, even if the account lists an adult birthday. Teen Accounts, which launched on Instagram last year, enroll young users into an app experience with built-in protections. The safeguards are applied to teens automatically, and limit who can contact a teen on...

Instagram is beginning to test the use of artificial intelligence to determine if kids are lying about their ages on the app, parent company Meta Platforms said on Monday. Meta has been using AI to determine people’s ages for some time, the company said, but photo and video-sharing app will now ā€œproactivelyā€ look for teen accounts it suspects belong to teenagers even if they entered an inaccurate birthdate when they signed up. If it is determined that a user is misrepresenting their age, the account will automatically become a teen...

A man describing his dilemma in a social media post is taking heat from others for his attitude and his choice of words, even as others shared support for his point of view. The man, 27, said his girlfriend, 24, is Brazilian and that ever since they've been together, "she’s been introducing me to her country’s cuisine, and I’ve loved everything she's made [that] I've tried so far." Recently, though, he said, "she took me to [a] Brazilian steakhouse and at some point she asked the waiter for a dish...

With the first week of Meta’s antitrust trial behind us, documents shared by the U.S Federal Trade Commission (FTC) offered more insight into Meta’s internal struggles to keep Facebook relevant. In emails from 2022, Meta executives mulled different visions for Facebook’s future to boost its success, acknowledging that its cultural relevance was decreasing. Fast-forward to 2025, and Meta is still grappling with this issue. Mark Zuckerberg said during the company’s Q4 earnings call in January that the company wants to restore Facebook’s cultural relevance this year with a return to...

The first week of the Meta antitrust trial brought new revelations about how the company formerly known as Facebook approached the competitive threat posed by Instagram in the early 2010s. The U.S. government is accusing Meta of violating competition laws by acquiring companies like Instagram and WhatsApp that threatened the Facebook monopoly. If lawyers for the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) are successful, the government could force Meta to break up its business by selling off Instagram and WhatsApp. As part of the trial, the FTC shared compelling evidence to...

The countdown is on: In less than 20 days, the REAL ID requirement will take effect, requiring Americans to obtain a new form of identification in order to fly domestically.Other identification that will be accepted in lieu of a REAL ID include a valid U.S. passport or passport card; DHS trusted traveler cards such as Global Entry; Department of Defense IDs; permanent resident cards; and border crossing cards. As of Friday morning in New Jersey, the Department of Motor Vehicles (NJDMV) website showed "0 appointments available" for REAL ID services...

Mark Zuckerberg’s private emails about Facebook’s purchase of Instagram more than a decade ago came back to haunt Meta at its historic antitrust trial this week – and the outcome of the case could ultimately hinge on whether a judge buys his attempts to explain them away, experts told The Post. The Federal Trade Commission presented a series of explosive private messages, including a 2012 exchange in which Zuckerberg said buying Instagram would ā€œneutralize a competitorā€ — a turn of phrase that FTC lead attorney Daniel Matheson labeled a ā€œsmoking...
