Boxing world champion Amy Broadhurst was among the women to beat Algerian Imane Khelif, the fighter in the middle of a gender controversy at the Paris Olympics, and spoke out about her former opponent on Wednesday. Broadhurst, of Ireland, was a gold medalist in the 2022 International Boxing Association (IBA) Women’s World Championships, beating Khelif in the finals. Khelif was then disqualified from the 2023 tournament for what the IBA president said at the time was that it was "proved" Khelif had "XY chromosomes." CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE...

We all know the medal winners for the competitions that have taken place so far in the 2024 Paris Olympics (or, rather, they’re all a single click away).

The US women’s gymnastics team reclaimed gold for the team all-around after a second-place finish in Tokyo, while the men’s team won its first medal in the team event since 2008. Some of China’s swimming successes are being scrutinized, given recent doping scandals. The triathlon finish line was incredibly impressive — and a reminder of how intensely these athletes push themselves.

Everyone seems to be “chasing vibes” lately—whether that’s going to Taylor Swift’s latest concert in Zurich, a music festival in Berlin, or the Olympics in Paris. Yes, it’s the summer, but turns out, it’s also just become the norm. People are going after experiences, fuelling the sports and music tourism industry, which is now set to double in size over the next eight years, according to a report by Collinson International, a global travel company that operates a slew of airport priority and lounge programs. It found that the sports...

Temperatures are expected to reach 35C with a heat warning issued for Paris and the surrounding areas.

A yellow alert - the second of the four weather tiers - is in place in the capital, with an orange alert in Bordeaux and Lyon.

The sailing events are taking place in Marseille, on the Mediterranean coast in the south of France, where competitors wore ice vests to try to counteract the heat.

Paris and its surrounding suburbs have also been put on a major storm alert, with strong thunderstorms and heavy rain "likely" from 17:00 BST (18:00 local time).

With just hours to go before the Olympics opening ceremony, arson attacks disrupt traffic on France’s high-speed train lines. And following a Supreme Court ruling banning sleeping in public spaces, California Governor Gavin Newsom issues an executive order to remove homeless encampments. These stories and more highlight The Morning Rundown for Friday, July 26, 2024. Authorities are investigating what’s being called “a malicious attack” on France’s high-speed rail network.

Apparently, it’s not just athletic ability that British Olympians are expected to perfect any more. Once they return from the Paris Olympics, which kick off this evening, they will be under pressure to become political activists, too. Back in March, Team GB, ParalympicsGB and UK Sport – the government body responsible for investing in the Olympics and Paralympics – announced its new ‘ChangeMakers’ initiative. The project, sponsored by the National Lottery, aims to fund and train athletes returning home to ‘choose the social-impact project they wish to support’. Sportsmen and...

A Russian chef who has lived in France for 14 years has been arrested on suspicion of plotting with a foreign power to stage “large scale” acts of “destabilisation” during the Olympic Games in Paris.

The 40-year-old man was arrested during a raid of his apartment in central Paris on Sunday where a document linked to an elite Russian special forces unit operating under the command of the FSB, an heir to the KGB, was reportedly found.
