Donald Trump’s data protection lawsuit against a British private investigations firm over a dossier which alleged ties between Trump’s campaign and Russia was thrown out by London’s High Court on Thursday.

Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, had sued Orbis Business Intelligence about claims in a dossier written by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, who co-founded Orbis.

Special Counsel John Durham testified Wednesday that the CIA in 2016 received intelligence that suggested Hillary Clinton had approved a plan to tie then-candidate Donald Trump to Russia — intelligence that the FBI ignored.

Durham testified publicly for the first time before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, just weeks after releasing a report that found the Justice Department and the FBI never should have launched the Trump-Russia investigation.

Trump-era special counsel John Durham said he is ā€˜encouraged’ by some of the reforms that have been implemented in the Department of Justice and FBI, but the issues outlined in his report cannot be fixed overnight.

ā€œThey cannot be addressed solely by enhancing training, or additional policy requirements,ā€ Durham said. ā€œRather what is required is accountability, both in terms of the standards to which our law enforcement personnel hold themselves and in the consequences they face for violation of laws and policies of relevance.ā€

Former special counsel John Durham testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday and saw his findings get picked apart by multiple Democratic lawmakers, including Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Jerry Nadler (D-NY).

Schiff in particular pelted Durham repeatedly about former President Donald Trump's actions throughout the 2016 campaign, where he openly encouraged the Russian government to hack his opponent's emails and where his son took a meeting with a Russian agent promising dirt on said opponent.

Special Counsel John Durham, testifying before members of the House Judiciary Committee, described his findings in a report concerning the origins of the FBI's investigation into claims of Russian collusion in former President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign, called his findings "sobering."

BuzzFeed is shutting down its namesake news division, which won acclaim for its journalism but fell prey to the punishing economics of digital publishing that has laid low many of its peers.

Jonah Peretti, BuzzFeed’s chief executive, said in an email to employees on Thursday that he was closing BuzzFeed News as part of a broader round of cuts at the company. About 60 people will be affected by the shuttering of the news division, some of whom will be offered jobs at other parts of the company.

BuzzFeed Inc. said Thursday it is shutting down BuzzFeed News and laying off about 15% of its workforce as founder and Chief Executive Jonah Peretti said it has faced ā€œmore challenges than I can count.ā€

BuzzFeed stock BZFD, -19.59% initially fell as much as 25% after the news. HuffPost and BuzzFeed.com will open ā€œa number of select roles for members of BuzzFeed News,ā€ Peretti said in a memo to staff. HuffPost, which is profitable and enjoys a ā€œloyal direct front page audience,ā€ will be BuzzFeed’s single news brand.

BuzzFeed News has published its last listicle.

The parent company of the site that first gained popularity with lists such as ā€œ10 Important Life Lessons You Can Learn From Catsā€ — and also published the now-debunked Steele dossier — is being shut down, according to a memo from BuzzFeed Inc. CEO Jonah Peretti on Thursday

Peretti said scrapping the site was part of a broader shakeup that includes laying off 15% of staffers companywide — which amounts to 180 jobs. BuzzFeed Inc. also owns the online news sites HuffPost and the Complex Networks.

A House Republican threw one curveball of a question at Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler, asking the Biden administration official on Tuesday to answer under oath whether he facilitated payment for British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s now-discredited anti-Trump dossier.

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) ended his contentious line of questioning during the final moments of a House Financial Services Committee hearing by hearkening back to Gensler’s role as chief financial officer on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
