In a joint press conference Friday with House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., former President Donald Trump said he ā€œstand[s] with the speaker,ā€ even as Johnson faces increasing pressure from far-right GOP House members on a motion to vacate, a charge led by Trump ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. The presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee said he is ā€œgetting along very well with the speakerā€ and ā€œgetting along very well withā€ Greene, just hours after Greene referred to Johnson in an interview as ā€œfull of s**t.ā€ Trump lauded Johnson, saying...

EXCLUSIVE — The widow of former Alaska GOP Rep. Don Young is weighing in on the race to replace her late husband, giving crucial support to a Republican candidate seeking to flip the seat held by Rep. Mary Peltola (D-AK). Anne Garland Young is endorsing Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom for Alaska’s sole House seat, the campaign first announced to the Washington Examiner. The endorsement is likely to give Dahlstrom a boost in one of the most competitive races of the 2024 cycle. ā€œ[Dahlstrom] is the only candidate my husband, Congressman...

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) endorsed former President Donald Trump on Tuesday, delivering his campaign a major win just two weeks from the Iowa caucuses.

"When Donald Trump was President, American workers and families were thriving," Scalise said in a statement to Fox News.

The endorsement is a safe one, as Trump leads by a sizable margin in just about every poll, and he is widely expected to run away with the nomination and take on President Joe Biden in November.

Republican Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana was elected speaker of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, ending a three-week leadership crisis that has paralyzed Congress.

Vice chairman of the House Republican conference and a hard-right conservative, Johnson had maintained a low public profile until he was thrust into the spotlight this week after securing the party’s nomination for speaker.

Republicans eagerly elected Rep. Mike Johnson as House speaker on Wednesday, elevating a deeply conservative but lesser-known leader to the seat of U.S. power and ending for now the political chaos in their majority.

Johnson, of Louisiana, swept through on the first ballot with support from all Republicans anxious to put the past weeks of tumult behind and get on with the business of governing. He was expected to quickly be sworn into office.

Rep. Jim Jordan’s bid to become speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives failed in a first vote for U.S. House Speaker Tuesday, raising the prospect that the Ohio Republican could keep trying for multiple ballots.

Jordan’s candidacy was in peril from very early in the vote, as a string of Republicans surprised their caucus by voting against the Ohio lawmaker. The trend continued over the half-hour voice vote. In the end, Jordan fell short by 20 votes, a higher number than many in the conference had predicted ahead of the vote.

House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) fell short of the 217 votes needed to become House speaker during the first roll call ballot on Tuesday.

Why it matters: The Jordan team entered the day expecting to need multiple ballots to win the gavel, but they're dealing with a group of resolute GOP defectors.

Driving the news: 200 House Republicans voted for Jordan on the first ballot.

Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, lost the first round vote to be House speaker on Tuesday after 20 Republicans joined all Democrats to shoot him down.

Seven Republicans voted for Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., who was the previous speaker-designate before being forced to withdraw due to mounting opposition. Six GOP lawmakers voted for ousted ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and three moderate New York Republicans voted for former GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin.

On Capitol Hill, House Republicans named Rep. Jim Jordan as their nominee for Speaker of the House on Friday afternoon. But that doesn't mean he's guaranteed to become Speaker. It's just the next step in that direction.

The Ohio congressman must still secure support from the rest of his colleagues ahead of a House floor vote.

Republican House Majority Leader Steve Scalise bowed out after it was unclear whether he could get the needed 217 votes.
