The Writers Guild of America plans to meet with Hollywood studio representatives on Friday, the first time the two sides will come face-to-face at a bargaining table since early May, when the union called a strike that now involves nearly every writer and actor in the industry.

The negotiating committee for the WGA announced it would resume talks with the studios in a brief email sent to union members on Tuesday night.

Dozens of California elected officials had a message for Taylor Swift on Tuesday amid a hotel workers strike in Southern California: Postpone your Los Angeles shows.

The officials signed an open letter to Swift backing Unite Here Local 11, a union representing over 32,000 hospitality workers across Southern California and Arizona, imploring the pop star to postpone her upcoming L.A. performances in solidarity with the striking workers. Swift is scheduled to perform six sold-out shows in L.A. County beginning Thursday.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards originally set to air in September have been postponed as the writers’ and actors’ strikes continue, Variety first reported.

The news arrives after the publication reported that the ceremony’s presenter, the Television Academy, looked to move the show to November while its broadcaster, Fox, eyed an airdate in January.

It’s unclear when the ceremony will take place due to the postponement. It was initially set to air on Sept. 18.

HuffPost has reached out to both the Television Academy and Fox for comment.

A few years ago I had just begun my TV writing career when I was warned by friends in the industry not to publish a column critical of the fact that Democrats like Hillary Clinton had for years accepted donations from Harvey Weinstein and others like him.

I did anyway.

Major films in production including Avatar and Gladiator sequels are looking likely to be affected by Hollywood actors taking strike action.

Promotional events such as red-carpet premieres will also be affected, such as Disney film Haunted Mansion, released later this month.

Events including the Emmys and Comic-Con may be rescheduled or scaled back.

In the industry's biggest shutdown for over 60 years, some 160,000 performers stopped work at midnight in LA.

Hollywood actors went on strike on Thursday after talks with studios broke down, joining film and television writers who have been on picket lines since May and deepening the disruption of scores of shows and movies.

Hollywood studios now face their first dual work stoppage in 63 years, forcing them to halt many productions across the United States and abroad. The twin strikes will add to the economic damage from the writers walkout, delivering another blow to an industry struggling with changes to its business.

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists National Board voted to strike Thursday.

SAG-AFTRA passed its second negotiation deadline with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers Wednesday. Both originally began negotiating June 7 with a June 30th deadline, which was ultimately extended to July 12. AMPTP represents Amazon/MGM, Apple, NBCUniversal, Disney/ABC/Fox, Netflix, Paramount/CBS, Sony, and Warner Bros.
