A former senior Biden official said Vice President Kamala Harris' work on immigration and the border was "at best ineffective," and suggested she didn't see it as her responsibility in a lengthy report on Team Biden infighting over the continuing crisis.

Axios reported on Monday that Harris and her aides made it clear early on that her responsibilities started and ended with working on root causes and factors driving immigration from countries like Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, known as the Northern Triangle.

Susan Rice, President Biden’s top domestic policy adviser, is departing the administration, the White House said Monday.

Ms. Rice, a longtime foreign-policy expert, has led the White House Domestic Policy Council since the start of the administration, helping coordinate with federal agencies on a broad variety of issues, including economic mobility, healthcare, gun control and immigration. Her last day will be May 26, an administration official said.

President Joe Biden’s domestic policy adviser, Susan Rice, is stepping down from her post next month, multiple current and former senior administration officials told NBC News.

The move brings to a close Rice’s prolific, wide-ranging and at times controversial tenure overseeing Biden’s domestic agenda â€” including some of the thorniest political issues, such as immigration policy. During her more than two years in the role, Biden has signed executive and legislative actions on health care, gun safety, student loans, policing and other key priorities for Democrats.

Susan Rice, President Joe Biden's top domestic policy adviser, is departing her post.

In a statement acknowledging Rice's exit, Biden remembered how he "surprised" pundits by tapping Rice for the position overseeing domestic affairs since she is "synonymous" with foreign policy, having previously been former President Barack Obama's national security adviser and ambassador to the United Nations.

Ric Grenell, who served as acting director of National Intelligence in the Trump administration, is blasting Susan Rice and says she is acting as a “shadow president.”

His comments came during an interview on CPAC Now. An excerpt of the interview was posted on Twitter by the Conservative Political Action conference.

“Susan Rice has been appointed as domestic policy adviser,” he said. “ That’s a joke. She doesn’t know anything about domestic policy.

Susan Rice has been tapped for a return to the White House as director of President-elect Joe Biden’s Domestic Policy Council.

Rice, 56, was passed over by Biden this year after chatter that she was in the running to be his pick for vice president.

Rice held the more prestigious post as national security adviser for President Barack Obama from 2013 to 2017, which came with a West Wing corner office diagonal from the Oval Office.

President-elect Joe Biden has tapped Denis McDonough, the onetime chief of staff to President Barack Obama, to serve as secretary of Veterans Affairs, Biden’s transition team announced Thursday.

McDonough’s selection was unveiled amid the latest batch of new additions to key posts in the upcoming Biden administration, which will also include former United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice as director of the White House Domestic Policy Council.

President-elect Joe Biden is naming Susan Rice as director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, giving her broad sway over his administration’s approach to immigration, health care and racial inequality and elevating the prominence of the position in the West Wing.

Former United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice said that it is "problematic" that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is "overtly religious."

"Mike Pompeo has been an overtly religious secretary of state, which in itself is problematic because again he's supposed to represent all of America, all of our religions," Rice told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow.

Pompeo has often spoken publicly about his Christian faith, saying in May that he reads both his Bible and intelligence reports in the morning.

Joe Biden hasn’t chosen a vice presidential nominee yet, but the preemptive attacks are already underway online and among conservative commentators.

One of their targets is Susan Rice, a former senior official in President Barack Obama’s administration.
