People buying tickets online for concerts, sporting events and other live events in Minnesota will be guaranteed more transparency and protection under a so-called Taylor Swift bill signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Tim Walz. The law, prompted by the frustration a legislator felt at not being able to buy tickets to Swift’s 2023 concert in Minneapolis, will require ticket sellers to disclose all fees up front and prohibit resellers from selling more than one copy of a ticket, among other measures. The law will apply to tickets purchased in...

Monumental Sports & Entertainment to expand operations in partnership with District of Columbia By D. Kevin McNeir Special to the AFRO A collective sigh of relief could be heard throughout the DMV (District, Maryland and Virginia) after the news broke on March 27, announcing that a deal had been made with Ted Leonis, owner of the Wizards and Capitals, and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser that will keep the teams in downtown D.C. until 2050. The agreement becomes official once approved by the District Council. However, that appears to be...

Bowl season is approaching, and most eligible teams will find out where they are playing in the postseason after the conference championship games are contested this weekend. However, two fan bases already found out where their teams are playing in an unexpected way. Ticketmaster appeared to leak who will be playing in the New Orleans Bowl, with Jacksonville State facing off against Louisiana. A Ragin’ Cajuns fan found that the ticketing giant prematurely posted the matchup on its website before an official announcement. On the heels of the apparent leak,...

Ticket sale giants Live Nation and Ticketmaster have pledged to display full pricing upfront, eliminating surprise fees during online purchases, following President Joe Biden’s promise to tackle ā€œjunk feesā€ in various industries, the White House announced on Thursday.

Biden made the announcement live Thursday afternoon following a roundtable discussion at the White House, where he hosted representatives from ticketing companies such as Live Nation, which formed a merger with Ticketmaster in 2010, SeatGeek and xBk.

Consumers can expect to see the full price of their tickets up front when they purchase from Live Nation or SeatGeek, the events ticketing giants said Thursday.

Both Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, and SeatGeek have come under fire from U.S. President Joe Biden for utilizing "junk fees," hidden costs on tickets which aren't revealed to the buyer until they're finalizing their transaction.

President Joe Biden hosted a meeting with executives from Live Nation, Airbnb, Seat Geek and others Thursday afternoon to continue his administration's efforts to use the power of the bully pulpit to tackle so-called "junk fees." Thursday's announcement makes no effort to actually reduce junk fees, or added costs that can surprise consumers by driving up price tags, but Biden declared the upfront pricing as a victory. "This is real transparency, which leads to more competition, brings down costs for working Americans," Biden said at a roundtable with business executives...

President Joe Biden lauded ticketing websites Ticketmaster and SeatGeek Inc. for initiatives aimed at making it easier for consumers to see all the costs upfront for sports, concerts, and theater performances and urged other companies to adopt similar practices. ā€œThe companies represented here today are voluntarily committed to all-in, upfront pricing,ā€ Biden said at an event on eliminating junk fees Thursday at the White House.

Months after holding a hearing critical of Live Nation and Ticketmaster in the Judiciary Committee, the Senate is taking action against the ticketing giant. Senators Amy Klobuchar, who co-organized that January hearing, and Richard Blumenthal, a key critic, introduced the Unlock Ticketing Markets Act on April 26, which specifically takes aim at the controversial multi-year exclusivity contracts that Ticketmaster often uses with venues.
