Boston Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner and owner John Henry speak to the media during spring training at the Player Development Complex on Feb. 19, 2018. Another sports powerhouse has joined the ownership ranks of the golf league being developed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. Fenway Sports Group, owned and run by John Henry and Tom Werner, will be the second of six teams to join TGL, the primetime golf league set to begin competition in January. "We are excited for this new journey," Henry and Werner said in...

On the menu today: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia effectively purchases the world of professional golf, and new evidence points to the Ukrainian government as the saboteur of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

Selling Our Institutions

The leadership of big, prominent, influential, and popular American institutions is for sale to the highest bidder — and very often, sovereign-wealth funds of brutal regimes are the highest bidder.

And the winner is …

Golf.

Golf and its fans around the globe who’ve grown tired of the hypocrisy that has divided the sport with the PGA Tour, threatened by LIV Golf and banning players who jumped to the Saudi-backed tour, now get to see the best players compete against each other more than in only the four major championships.

There was a time in the distant past — that is, as recently as Monday — when the official position of the PGA Tour was that its competitor, the Saudi-backed golf tour known as LIV, was a scandalous, even odious, operation. Referring to Saudi Arabia’s horrific human rights record, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said last June, “You’d have to be living under a rock to not understand the implications of involving yourself with the Saudis.” But Monahan’s strong comment is now just a reminder that pencils have erasers.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tiger Woods understands how the visuals came across on social media and TV. He looked completely broken in Saturday’s relentless rain, as if all the injuries and surgeries were conspiring against him in that very moment, leaving him no choice but to walk away. Only Woods didn’t exactly walk out of Augusta National after the storms suspended play. He staggered off the course, moving like a man nearly twice his age. At 47, Woods was smart enough to tell his cornermen that he couldn’t answer the bell...

Tiger Woods has seen enough of Augusta this weekend.

After battling to make the cut at the Masters in brutal conditions on Saturday, Woods opted to withdraw from the first major of the season on Sunday morning.

Woods, 47, was visibly limping through the rain and wind on Saturday and was 6-over on his third round after making the cut on the number at 3-over par.

Woods was facing the prospect of playing 29 holes on Sunday to complete the tournament after making the cut for the 23rd consecutive time at the Masters.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tiger Woods sounds more wistful by the day. He’s 47 years old and is four years removed from his last major championship victory, which happened to be his last Masters victory and his last win of any kind. Woods, in his Tuesday meeting with reporters at Augusta National, sounded like he’s getting ever so close to becoming a ceremonial Masters player like the game’s legends Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus eventually did once they knew they could no longer compete to win. But Woods, whose 2019 Masters...

Developers expect construction of Trout National – The Reserve to begin in 2023, with an anticipated opening in 2025. The club will offer an 18-hole championship course, a clubhouse, a wedding chapel and other amenities. Trout was born in Vineland and grew up in Millville. His illustrious...
