The company said its total investment in the facility will now reach $13.9 billion. The total number of new jobs expected to be created totals 5,000. It said it is adding eight battery production lines. “Through the last few years of building relationships, including my most recent trip to Tokyo ... our partnership with Toyota has become stronger than ever, culminating in this historic announcement,”...

All 14 of Toyota’s assembly plants in Japan were shut down on Tuesday (Aug. 29), after an issue with the automaker’s computer system that sorts incoming components. The company confirmed the plants would be up and running again by Wednesday morning, Japan Standard Time. The stoppage affected 25 assembly lines accounting for a third of Toyota’s global production. The company’s Japanese plants make an average of 13,500 vehicles each day, according to an estimate by Reuters. Toyota apologized for the problem and said it was investigating the cause, though it...

The assembly lines at Toyota’s 14 auto plants in Japan shut down over a problem with a computer system Tuesday. The company, via spokesperson Sawako Takeda, said they don’t believe the problem facing the computer system, which deals with incoming auto parts, was caused by a cyberattack, according to The Associated Press. Takeda said cause is still under investigation. Toyota said that production will restart Wednesday. It also declined to say which models could be affected. “We apologize for all the troubles we have caused,” Toyota said in a statement...

Toyota Motor expects to resume production at all of its plants in Japan after a problem procuring parts took them offline Tuesday. Some 12 of the car maker's 14 factories in Japan are expected to resume operations from the first shift Wednesday, with the remaining plants expected to restart from the second shift that day, Toyota said. Toyota had previously suspended production at all of its plants in Japan due to a problem that occurred Monday with its parts-procurement system. The automaker said late Tuesday that the system malfunction wasn't...

TOKYO--Toyota Motor temporarily halted operations at 12 of its 14 factories in Japan on Tuesday due to a malfunction with its systems that left it unable to procure parts as needed. The carmaker said its remaining two factories in Japan were set to shut down later Tuesday because of the same issue. It didn't release plans for Wednesday and beyond. Automakers halt plants relatively frequently in Japan in response to issues ranging from natural disasters to problems procuring components. Toyota in particular has a culture of caution and believes that...

Motor industry giant Toyota has suspended operations at all of its assembly plants in Japan due to a glitch in its production system. A spokesperson told the BBC that the firm is trying to find the cause of the problem but does not currently believe it is due to a cyber attack. The company has not yet said when it plans to restart the operations or how much production is expected to be lost due to the stoppage. Its operations were hit last year after one of its suppliers was...
