Gov. Kathy Hochul‘s (D-NY) decision to backtrack on New York City’s congestion pricing plan reveals not just her dishonest character but also the conservative nature of many New York City residents.

The plan, which would have charged drivers for entering Manhattan’s core business district, was designed to decrease traffic and pollution while simultaneously raising funds to improve the city’s subway and bus systems.

A record was broken ahead of the Memorial Day weekend for the number of airline travelers screened at U.S. airports, the Transportation Security Administration said Saturday.

More than 2.9 million travelers were screened at U.S. airports on Friday, surpassing a previous record set last year on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, according to the transportation security agency.

“Officers have set a new record for most travelers screened in a single day!” the TSA tweeted. “We recommend arriving early.”

The third busiest day on record was set on T

Proposed high-speed rail lines in Texas could "transform the state" as "a hub for business," according to one prominent academic as the Lone Star State wrestles with what could be some of its biggest infrastructure projects in decades.

There are preliminary plans to construct two new high-speed rail lines in the state, with one connecting Dallas to Houston, and the other Dallas to Fort Worth, in moves supporters claim will slash journey times between the key cities.

Oil has spilled into the waters surrounding Pelican Island near Galveston, Texas, after a barge hit a bridge leading to the island on Wednesday. The barge hit the bridge at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, the Associated Press reported, which caused a closure of the only road leading to Pelican Island. As of publication of this article, crews were reportedly working to clean up the spill. No information about injuries was provided. Newsweek reached out to the Galveston Office of Emergency Management by email for comment. This is a...

A longstanding emissions reduction program may lead to a 50-cent increase in gasoline prices within two years in California, according to a little-known state air quality regulator report.

In September, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), the state's primary environmental regulator, reported gas prices will rise next year by about 50 cents a gallon and every year thereafter to aid in clean air efforts. The price increase does not include the existing gas tax in the state.

A hit-and-run incident by a semi-truck with a tractor and trailer attached left a Kansas City pedestrian in critical condition on Tuesday. The truck did not leave enough room for its attached cargo when it was turning onto Wilson Avenue near the Sheffield neighborhood in East Kansas City, according to the Kansas City Police Department. When the truck turned too sharply, the tractor and trailer went over the curb, through the median and onto the sidewalk, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a KCPD spokesperson. The trailer smashed into the pedestrian...

The Federal Aviation Administration says it's opened an investigation into Boeing regarding inspections of the 787 Dreamliner that "may not have been completed."

The FAA said Monday Boeing "voluntarily informed us in April" that the plane maker may not have completed required inspections to confirm that there was adequate bonding and grounding where the wings join the carbon fiber fuselage on certain 787 jets.

The Federal Aviation Administration has opened a new investigation into Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner after Boeing disclosed that inspection records on work at the wing-to-body join were falsified.

Boeing informed the FAA in April that it may not have completed required inspections on some 787s to confirm adequate bonding and electrical grounding where the wings join the fuselage body. Inspection records were falsified at the jet’s final assembly site in South Carolina.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday it has opened an investigation into the Boeing Dreamliner after the planemaker said some employees had committed “misconduct” by claiming some tests had been completed.

The FAA said it is investigating whether Boeing completed the inspections to confirm adequate bonding and grounding where the wings join the fuselage on certain 787 Dreamliner airplanes “and whether company employees may have falsified aircraft records.”

But, the long-discussed idea of congestion pricing in Boston remains just that: an idea. Even suggesting taxing drivers can get some politicians in hot water. Congestion pricing, experts say, is a tool that can help jump-start a change in how people travel by slashing traffic and climate change-causing fumes. The idea has been studied repeatedly by state and regional organizations in Massachusetts and discussed by lawmakers for years. New York City is expected to make history next month as the first US city to implement a kind of congestion pricing....
