The Department of Government Efficiency effectively shut down a small agency that coordinates homelessness policy, leaving all staff on administrative leave. The shutdown followed a Trump administration executive order.

The agency had a budget of just over $4 million and focused on managing high homelessness rates, especially among veterans.

Jeff Olivet, the agency’s last executive director, stated that the government created the agency to coordinate federal efforts to reduce homelessness efficiently.

US Vice President JD Vance met with senior Vatican officials amid sharp differences over the White House's crackdown on migrants, with the Holy See reaffirming good relations but noting “an exchange of opinions” over the issue and current international conflicts.

According to a statement by the Vatican, Vance, a Catholic convert, met with the secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and the foreign minister, Archbishop Paul Gallagher.

Just like a global trade war, the dismissal of the chair of the Federal Reserve by the U.S. President is an event investors know will be unequivocally bad for markets. But it is also a risk that is too far-reaching to properly quantify, meaning the market might be forewarned, but it won't be forearmed.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday escalated his feud with Fed Chair Jerome Powell - who Trump himself nominated in 2017 – writing on social media that "Powell's termination cannot come fast enough" and later telling reporters that the Fed chair is "playing politics".

Senator Chris Van Hollen said on Thursday night that he had met in San Salvador with Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man whose wrongful deportation to El Salvador last month has become a flashpoint in the immigration debate and fueled a standoff between the Trump administration and the courts.

The Trump administration released documents Wednesday that revealed new details in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man deported to El Salvador a month ago in what a government lawyer called an “administrative error.”

The documents were released after weeks of pressure on the government to prove its contention that Abrego Garcia was a member of the MS-13 gang. The Trump administration sent him to a notorious megaprison in the Central American country as part of its promised deportation program of alleged criminals.

The wife of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man mistakenly deported to El Salvador, sought a restraining order against her husband alleging domestic violence, according to a 2021 court filing posted on social media by the Department of Homeland Security.

In its post, DHS officials wrote, “Kilmar Abrego Garcia had a history of violence and was not the upstanding ‘Maryland Man’ the media has portrayed him as.”
