The acting attorney general on Monday fired more than a dozen prosecutors who worked on the two criminal investigations into Donald J. Trump for the special counsel Jack Smith, saying they could not be trusted to “faithfully implement” the president’s agenda, a Justice Department spokesman said.

Justice Department veterans called the firings an egregious violation of well-established laws meant to preserve the integrity and professionalism of government agencies.

Before President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House he will return to the courthouse, a New York judge ruled Friday.

Justice Juan Merchan will sentence Trump for his crimes on Jan. 10 — just 10 days before his inauguration on Jan. 20 — in a court proceeding that will be unlike any in America's 248 years. Trump's conviction in New York stemmed from a $130,000 so-called "hush money" payment his then-attorney, Michael Cohen, made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in the days before the 2016 election.

Attorneys for President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden, citing the recent decision by a federal judge in Florida to dismiss the classified documents case against Donald Trump, filed a pair of motions in California and Delaware Thursday seeking to dismiss both federal criminal cases against him. "The Attorney General relied upon the exact same authority to appoint the Special Counsel in both the Trump and Biden matters, and both appointments are invalid for the same reason," attorneys for Biden argued in the filings. U.S. District Judge Eileen Cannon ruled this...

President Joe Biden called out Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for giving Judge Aileen Cannon a new defense to dismiss former President Donald Trump's classified documents case.

On Monday, Cannon dismissed Trump's Mar-a-Lago case, ruling that the appointment of Department of Justice (DOJ) Special Counsel Jack Smith was "unlawful." Biden responded to the decision in an interview with NBC News' Lester Holt.

The federal judge overseeing the classified documents charges against former president Donald Trump has dismissed the indictment on the grounds that special counsel Jack Smith was improperly appointed, according to a court filing Monday.

U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon’s ruling is a remarkable win for Trump, whose lawyers have thrown longshot argument after longshot argument to dismiss the case. Other courts have rejected similar arguments to the one that he made in Florida about the legality of Smith’s appointment.

In a stunning move, former President Donald Trump’s confidential documents case was tossed out by a federal judge in Florida on Monday.

Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the case against the presumptive Republican presidential nominee on the grounds that the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith to the case violated the Constitution.

Cannon ruled that Congress was required to appoint “constitutional officers” and the legislature was also needed to approve spending for such a prosecution.

Judge Aileen Cannon tossed former President Trump’s case over his alleged mishandling of classified information, ruling Monday that special counsel Jack Smith was not lawfully appointed.

The ruling hands a major victory to Trump, marking the first time one of his four criminal cases has been dismissed entirely.

“The Superseding Indictment is dismissed because Special Counsel Smith’s appointment violates the Appointments Clause of the United States Constitution,” Cannon wrote in a 93-page ruling.

Former President Donald J. Trump hawks $59.99 Bibles with the same words he uses to win the votes of evangelical Christians. He sells swatches of the suit he wore in a mug shot while also raising money for his campaign by calling himself a “political prisoner.” He describes Truth Social, his refuge for those banned on other social media sites — and his best chance to substantially increase his wealth — as a bulwark against liberal companies out to silence Christians and conservatives.
