The US Marine Corps sent an anti-terrorism unit to protect the US Embassy in Haiti amid an eruption of gang violence following the prime minister’s announcement that he plans to step down.

The US Southern Command, operating in the Greater Miami area, said Wednesday that a Marine Fleet-Anti-Terrorism Security Team (FAST) was dispatched to the US Embassy in Port-au-Prince to “maintain strong security capabilities.”

The five U.S. Marines who died when their helicopter crashed in a mountainous region in southern California on Tuesday have been identified by the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar.

The victims were identified as Lance Cpl. Donovan Davis, 21, of Kansas; Sgt. Alec Langen, 23, of Arizona; Capt. Benjamin Moulton, 27, of Idaho; Capt. Jack Casey, 26, of New Hampshire; and Capt. Miguel Nava, 28, of Michigan, Fox News reported. Davis and Langen, the youngest members of the crew, were both crew chiefs, while Moulton, Casey, and Nava were helicopter pilots.

A marine from Arizona was onboard a military helicopter that crashed in the mountains outside of San Diego. On the afternoon of Feb. 8, we spoke with the wife of Alec Langen, who confirmed that her husband is one of the five victims in the crash. Langen and four other marines were on the CH-53E helicopter at the time of the crash, according to our earlier reports. The helicopter went missing late Tuesday night while returning to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego after training at Creech Air...

The five Marines aboard a helicopter that crashed in California earlier this week were confirmed dead on Thursday.

Driving the news: The helicopter, on a routine training flight from Nevada to California, was reported overdue on Tuesday after not arriving in San Diego as scheduled.

The helicopter was located Wednesday morning in Pine Valley, Calif., — about 50 miles from the air station in San Diego. Authorities said search and rescue operations were underway to locate the five Marines on board.

The Marine Corps said Wednesday it is searching for five Marines who were onboard a helicopter that went missing on its way to San Diego a day earlier.

The Marines said civil authorities found the helicopter on Wednesday morning in Pine Valley, California, about 40 miles east of San Diego. It didn’t describe the aircraft’s condition. The helicopter had taken off from Creech Air Force Base outside Las Vegas on Tuesday for a routine training flight.

First responders found the crashed CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter following hours of searching on Wednesday, but they did not find the crew until Thursday morning.
