With one viral line on cable TV - "these guys are just weird" - Tim Walz vaulted into contention for the job of Kamala Harris's running mate.

The 60-year-old brings with him a folksy, plain-spoken and sharp-tongued approach to taking on the Republican opposition.

He also comes with a compelling resume - a public school teacher, football coach and National Guardsman before he entered politics.

Vice President Kamala Harris will appear Tuesday alongside her newly selected running mate at a Philadelphia rally before the duo hits the road for a campaign blitz.

ā€œThis swing will allow the Vice President and her running mate to speak directly with voters in their communities and cement the contrast between our ticket and Trump’s,ā€ the Harris campaign said.

Joe Biden is dismissing Republican calls to step down as president — including from the speaker of the House — now that he’s abandoned his reelection bid, charging headlong this week into high-stakes conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other major priorities.

The White House confirmed Sunday that Biden will remain commander-in-chief even as he abandons his pursuit of another four years, saying he ā€œlooks forward to finishing his term and delivering more historic results for the American people.ā€

Senator Eric Schmitt (R., Mo.) on Monday became the first member of the upper chamber of Congress to call on Vice President Kamala Harris and current cabinet officials to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Joe Biden from office after his Sunday announcement that he will not run for re-election.

ā€œIf President Biden is willing to admit he is unable to continue to stand as the Democratic Party nominee for President after the primary process due to his health, he is unable to continue to serve as President until January 20, 2025,ā€ Schmitt wrote.

House Republicans are calling on President Biden to resign from office after he announced that he would no longer seek reelection, arguing that he should not continue to serve in the White House if he is unable to run for another term.

The comments — several of which were from House GOP leadership — came shortly after Biden said he was withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race, a seismic announcement that rocked the political world and left the path forward for Democrats uncertain.

Sen. Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.) on Monday said he would not consider serving as Vice President Harris’s running mate, arguing it is time for a ā€œnew generationā€ following President Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 race.

When asked on ā€œCNN This Morningā€ if he would consider running as VP with Harris — who was endorsed by Biden to replace him on the ticket — Manchin said, ā€œNo, I’m not.ā€

ā€œIt’s a new generation, you don’t want a 76-year-old vice president right now,ā€ he continued.

When J.D. Vance addressed the Republican National Convention Wednesday night, he wasn’t just introducing himself to the nation. He was selling a political ideology. To that end, Vance chronicled his hardscrabble upbringing to champion the core tenets of Trumpism.
