Former US Attorney Jessica Aber, who was found dead Saturday morning in her Virginia home, appeared to have succumbed to natural causes, according to authorities.

“At this time, detectives have found no evidence suggesting that her death was caused by anything other than natural causes,” Alexandria police said in an update Tuesday evening.

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to a U.S. attorney being found dead inside her Virginia home Saturday.

At 9:18 a.m., police in Alexandria, Virginia, responded to reports of an unresponsive woman and found her deceased.

She was later identified as former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Jessica Aber, 43. She was nominated to the post by then-president Joe Biden.

Jessica D. Aber, 43, worked as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 2021 to 2025. Appointed by former President Joe Biden, she served in the role until resigning Jan. 20.

In a news release Saturday, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) confirmed Aber's death, reporting it received a call about an "unresponsive woman" at around 9:18 a.m. Saturday.

Former President Donald Trump has solidified his lead in Virginia, with a second poll in three days out Thursday showing him up over President Joe Biden.

The new Emerson College Polling-Hill survey has Trump at 45% and Biden at 43%.

It follows a Virginia Commonwealth University survey earlier this week that gave Trump a lead of 39% to 36%.

“In a state Biden won by 10 points in 2020, the president is now essentially tied with Trump,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling.

A stunningly tight race in Virginia was among the highlights of Tuesday night’s races, which also included contests in Georgia and Oklahoma.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) vetoed a slew of bills Friday, including one focused on protecting access to contraceptives.

“While I look forward to working with the General Assembly to see if we can reach agreement on language in the future, today I must act on the language before me, and there are several bills which are not ready to become law,” Youngkin said in a release shared by his office.

A Virginia school board has approved a motion for two schools to revert to their Confederate names following a debate that bitterly divided a town.

The Shenandoah County School Board voted 5-1 to reinstate the names of Stonewall Jackson High and Ashby-Lee Elementary in Quicksburg.

Community members had been pushing for a reversal, arguing the 2020 name change was unpopular.

The vote marked the first such U-turn anywhere in the US.
