As we learn more about the senseless SUV attack on the crowd attending a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, some liberal media outlets are energetically attempting to spin away from the suspect Darrell Brooks and his left-wing politics on social media.

The alleged driver of a Ford Escape that plowed through dozens of parade participants and spectators on Sunday appeared to have “no emotion on his face” and accelerated toward the crowd, according to a criminal complaint filed against him.

Authorities filed the complaint in the Waukesha County district court on Tuesday, detailing the accounts of several law enforcement officers who attempted to stop the vehicle while it sped toward the annual Christmas parade. At least three officers encountered the vehicle and attempted to stop it, with one firing three shots at it.

Low bail that led to the release of the man accused of driving an SUV through a downtown Christmas parade and killing six people here is prompting debates among lawmakers over bail policies in the state.

The suspect, 39-year-old Darrell Brooks, has a history of arrests. As recently as Nov. 5 he was charged with disorderly conduct and recklessly endangering safety after punching the mother of his child, then running her over with a vehicle, according to a complaint.

Progressive prosecutors always have the courage of their convictions as long as they’re just gasbagging about their lofty aspirations for society . . . which is to say, right up until their abstractions about “equity,” “systemic racism,” and the need to “reform” our “broken system” crash into the reality of violent, recidivist crime that destroys the lives of flesh-and-blood Americans.

At that point, it’s always some underling’s fault — some nameless bureaucrat who didn’t get the subtle, oh-so-thoughtful nuances of the boss’s position.

Every parade has an act that draws the eye, that brings a quick smile and a delighted laugh. 

An act like the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies, who with their pom-poms, sense of humor and moxie have entertained crowds across the area for decades.

Funded in 1984, they usually performed 25 times a year, although they had to take a break in the earlier months of the pandemic.

"The Grannies are kind of a really tight unit," said Beth Krohn, a retired member of the group. "We used to call it a sisterhood."

The city acknowledged on Twitter that the numbers could change as more information becomes available.

The shocking scene unfolded around 4:30 p.m. local time. Waukesha Police Chief Daniel Thompson confirmed that an officer fired at the vehicle and that a suspect was in custody in what he called "a very fluid investigation."

Crowds were bundled up along Waukesha's Main Street to enjoy the parade when a red SUV drove through a series of barricades and barreled onto the parade route around 4:39 p.m. local time, Waukesha Police Chief Daniel Thompson said.

Roads in the area will remain closed for at least 24 hours, Thompson added. Businesses along road where the incident took place should remain closed Monday, city officials said.
