A dark SUV cruised past former President Donald Trump’s supporters near his Bedminster golf club in New Jersey on a windy April afternoon. Billowing from the vehicle were three flags: one for the Trump campaign, two others with the initials “PB” – the insignia of the far-right Proud Boys movement.

The Enid city councilman accused of being a member of the white nationalist group Identity Evropa was soundly defeated Tuesday in a recall election. Unofficial election returns show that Judd Blevins, the incumbent, received 561 votes, about 40.365%, while Cheryl Patterson, the challenger, captured 829 votes or 59.65%.

A total of 1,390 votes were cast in the race.

The Justice Department has indicated in a court filing Friday that it is intending to seek the death penalty for Buffalo supermarket shooter Payton Gendron.

Gendron, 20, is already serving a sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole after he pleaded guilty to state charges of murder and hate-motivated domestic terrorism in the May 2022 attack that left 10 Black people dead at a Tops grocery store.

The US federal government is seeking the death penalty for a white gunman who killed 10 people in a racially-motivated 2022 shooting.

The US Department of Justice, in a Biden administration first, said capital punishment is warranted due to the shooting's effect on victims.

Payton Gendron, 20, was sentenced to life in prison last year for the Buffalo, New York, shooting.

Gendron has said he killed people that day "because they were black".

With Harvard University president Claudine Gay in the hot seat for her comments at a congressional hearing on antisemitism as a well as for the recently reported instances of plagiarism in her scholarly work, it was only a matter of time before her supporters accused her critics of racism.

NAACP president Derrick Johnson recently claimed that attacks against Gay “are nothing more than political theatrics advancing a White supremacist agenda.”

Even as the first Black woman to sit on the Supreme Court was sworn in Thursday, the slate of rulings from the newly empowered, right-wing and originalist court majority this term has made it clearer than ever that the court is motivated by a reliance on the white supremacist patriarchy of the Constitution’s framers. 

White supremacist and antisemitic leader Nick Fuentes has been thrust into the state political spotlight after he was hosted by the president of an influential group that has donated millions of dollars to top Texas Republican officials.

Joseph Robinette Biden, our only president, just provided us with a classic example of postmodern wordplay. In a recent speech to graduating seniors at Howard University, the octogenarian pol described “white supremacy” as the “most dangerous terrorist threat” — at least on the domestic front — to the United States. That’s arguably true, but it’s worth unpacking what exactly this means, and why Uncle Joe was so eager to announce it.

It's no wonder President Joe Biden was at Howard University last week. He has work to do to convince Black voters he deserves a second term.

Biden and congressional Democrats are focused on swinging public opinion to their side as they try to strike a debt ceiling deal with Republicans, just as Biden departed Wednesday for a G-7 summit in Japan.

But as he deals with record-low approval ratings and stubbornly high inflation, Black voters — a key bloc loyal to Democrats — remain restless after fewer among them voted in November.
