Smoke from the Canadian wildfires is again blowing down into the states, causing certain cities to report potentially hazardous air quality. 

Details: According to the Washington Post (Lean Left bias), Canada is experiencing its “worst fire season in modern history.” The resulting smoke is blowing down to the Midwest and east coast of the United States. The National Weather Service issued air quality alerts in Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky and Washington, D.C. 

Key Quotes: The National Weather Service Indianapolis Twitter account advised residents to “Limit outdoor activity and avoid outdoor physical activities, especially those that are sensitive to smoke.” New York Governor Kathy Hochul addressed air quality concerns during a press conference Tuesday, stating, “This is not something that we’re talking about future generations dealing with. We are truly the first generation to feel the real effects of climate change.”

How the Media Covered It: CNBC’s (Center bias) article concluded climate change was to blame for the strength of the wildfires, stating, “Wildfires do occur naturally, but climate change can cause hotter, drier conditions that can exacerbate wildfires, research has shown.” The Daily Caller (Right bias) questioned the connection, stating, “The White House previously has promulgated a direct link between climate change and the intensity of this year’s Canadian forest fires, despite Canadian government statistics that do not support the connection between the two phenomena.”
