A terrorist from the Islamic State – Khorasan Province (ISIS-K), who was extradited to the United States in the early Wednesday morning hours, confessed to the FBI that he played key roles in the infamous bombing of Abbey Gate at the Kabul, Afghanistan airport that took the lives of soldiers and civilians, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. He also claimed taking part in a deadly attack on a concert hall in Moscow, and a blast targeting Canadian embassy security guards in Kabul.

A new travel ban by President Donald Trump could bar people from Afghanistan and Pakistan from entering the U.S. as soon as next week based on a government review of countries' security and vetting risks, three sources familiar with the matter said.

The three sources, who requested anonymity, said other countries could also be on the list but did not know which ones.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Afghan nationals arriving through Operation Allies Welcome – such as Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, who plotted the attack – are only granted humanitarian parole into the United States following required screening and vetting. The war in Ukraine could turn into the European Union’s ā€œAfghanistan,ā€ a grinding and costly engagement with ā€œno way out,ā€ Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor OrbĆ”n claimed Friday.

Speaking to former Fox News host Tucker Carlson at a media event in Dubai, OrbĆ”n noted the hundreds of billions of euros in aid the EU has spent helping Ukraine resist Russia’s full-scale invasion, which Moscow launched three years ago this month.

A Florida jury on Friday found TV news provider CNN liable for defaming a U.S. Navy veteran who helped evacuate people from Afghanistan after the U.S. military withdrew from the country in 2021.

The six-person jury said CNN had to pay damages totaling $5 million. There will be a second phase of the trial to determine any punitive damages. The verdict followed a two-week trial in Panama City, Florida, state court.

A CNN representative said the network would not comment until the jury decided punitive damages.

After 8½ hours of deliberations over two days, the jury awarded Young $5 million for lost business opportunities as well as pain and suffering. The jury also elected to award Young punitive damages, typically a much larger amount that is intended to punish CNN and to put other media companies on notice. That amount will be determined after additional testimony is presented about CNN’s financial value. Throughout the two-week trial in Panama City, jurors heard from a parade of CNN reporters, producers and executives who sought to explain the reporting...

WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Outgoing President Joe Biden sought to burnish his foreign policy record on Monday and said U.S. adversaries are weaker than when he took office four years ago despite global crises that remain unresolved.

A week before handing over to President-elect Donald Trump, Biden addressed U.S. diplomats at the State Department and touted his administration's backing for Ukraine against Russia's 2022 invasion and for Israel's wars in the Middle East.

President Joe Biden delivered a speech Monday defending his foreign policy legacy after a term that was defined by a level of geopolitical instability unseen since the end of the Cold War. Speaking at the State Department, Biden, 82, began by declaring the post-Cold War period over and acknowledging that great power geopolitical competition has returned. The U.S. is on top in this new era of revived competition thanks to his performance as president, Biden argued.

The Afghan Taliban’s supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, has issued a decree banning windows in residential buildings that overlook areas used by women. The ruling is part of the government’s wider campaign to implement Sharia law across the country.

The statement, published by Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, outlines ā€œthe manner of placing windows facing neighboring buildings during construction.
