Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday thanked President Biden on the sidelines of the NATO summit for providing his country with cluster bombs, highly controversial munitions that are outlawed by more than 100 nations. Zelensky acknowledged it was a “difficult political decision” for Biden to move forward on providing the weapons, which make an explosive more dangerous by indiscriminately dispersing hundreds of projectiles over a larger area.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy celebrated security agreements and commitments reached at this year’s NATO Summit Wednesday, one day after publicly voicing his frustration with the alliance’s approach to engagement with Ukraine amid its ongoing war with Russia. At a bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden in Vilnius, Lithuania, Zelenskyy, who attended the summit along with a delegation of Ukrainian officials, said the results of the summit were a win for Ukraine. “I think by the end of summit, we have great unity from our leaders and the security guarantees —...

Presidents Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelensky will discuss the possibility of the United States providing Ukraine with long-range missiles that the Biden administration has chosen not to give the country to date. The Biden administration has repeatedly denied Ukraine's request for Army Tactical Missile Systems due to concerns that Russia could view that as an escalation if it enables Ukraine to strike targets within Russian territory. Despite the stance Biden has held for months, he has on multiple occasions changed his mind after previously declining to provide Ukraine with other...

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday his country needs long-range weapons to fight Russian forces in Ukraine, and that he would raise the issue at talks with U.S. President Joe Biden. In comments while in Lithuania for meetings with NATO leaders, Zelenskyy thanked Biden for a decision to provide Kyiv with cluster munitions, saying they were needed for Ukraine's defense and to help take back Russian-occupied territory. Zelenskyy reiterated assurances that the weapons would be used only on military targets in Ukraine.

President Biden and other NATO leaders will meet Wednesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the second day of the major summit hosted in Lithuania's capital city of Vilnius. The crucial meeting comes a day after leaders committed to providing Ukraine with more military assistance to fight against Russia but failed to offer the country membership to the international alliance, prompting a critical response from the Ukrainian leader.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday the results of a NATO summit were good, but would have been ideal if there had been an invitation for Kyiv to join the Western military alliance.

Zelenskyy said NATO's recognition that Ukraine did not need to follow a Membership Action Plan was important, and that he had received positive news on defense packages announced during the summit in Vilnius.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appears to be unhappy with reports that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit currently underway in Vilnius, Lithuania, will culminate with an offer of increased support for Ukraine against the Russian invasion, but not an offer of full membership in NATO. Zelensky used social media on Tuesday morning to assure NATO members that Ukraine will always “value our allies,” but would insist on “respect” — and he evidently feels the proposed wording for inviting Kyiv to begin a lengthy process of applying for NATO membership,...

US President Joe Biden thanked his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday for his "courage" in dropping opposition to Sweden's entry to NATO. At a meeting during the NATO summit in Vilnius, Biden celebrated the conclusion of a major diplomatic push to get Erdogan to stop blocking Sweden's application. "I want to thank you for your diplomacy and your courage to take that on. And I want to thank you for your leadership," Biden told Erdogan. Frustration had been mounting in Western capitals at Erdogan's obstruction of Sweden, which...

Sweden followed Finland in joining NATO, an alliance formed as a bulwark to Moscow’s aggression that was tested — and then strengthened and expanded — when Putin ordered his forces across Ukraine’s border more than 500 days ago. Scenes of international camaraderie also pervaded Vilnius. Biden praised Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who dropped his objections to allow Sweden’s entrance to the post-World War II era alliance. He was seen chatting during the leaders’ family photo with Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, a rogue actor accused of rolling back democracy in his...

The Biden administration approved the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey after the country approved Sweden’s NATO bid on Monday. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan confirmed on Tuesday that Washington green-lit the sale of F-16s to Turkey after the country said it would allow Sweden to join NATO. Diplomats and analysts say that the timing of the deal is questionable, as Turkey has sought to buy American fighter planes since 2021 and was only approved for the purchase after they agreed to support Sweden’s NATO bid on Monday, according...
