President Biden has asserted executive privilege over the audio and video recordings from the special counsel investigation into his handling of classified materials and will refuse congressional requests to hand them over, the White House and the Justice Department said in separate letters to House Republican leaders Thursday.

The House Oversight Committee on Thursday will hold the first hearing in the GOP's impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden as Republicans pursue bank records of the president and his son Hunter.

Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., said this week that the hearing will focus on "the basis of an impeachment inquiry" and present evidence House Republicans say they've uncovered about "Biden’s knowledge of and role in his family’s domestic and international business practices."

Thursday morning marked the first official House committee hearing on the impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden. But on the network morning news shows, CBS Mornings refused to preview it while ABC’s Good Morning America lost its mind about the inquiry occurring “absent evidence,” of Biden wrongdoing with no “direct, concrete evidence” and “[n]o bank account, money transfer, overt act” tying Joe to his son’s life of ruin.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy reneged on his promise not to move forward with an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden without having a full vote by the House of Representatives. When defending his reversal, McCarthy blamed his predecessor, Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

“Nancy Pelosi changed the rules and the precedent,” McCarthy said on Sept. 13, when responding to a reporter who asked how he justified not holding a vote before launching Biden’s impeachment inquiry on Sept. 12.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold L. Nadler on Monday put a fine point on Democrats’ impeachment case against President Trump, arguing that the president put himself before the country.

“We surely agree that no public official, including and especially the president of the United States, should use his public office for private gain,” he said at the opening of an evidentiary hearing before his committee.

Based on the evidence presented, the committee will proceed to write articles of impeachment against Mr. Trump.

Daniel Goldman, lawyer for Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, said President Trump's behavior is "a clear and present danger" to future US elections.

"President Trump's persistent and continuing effort to coerce a foreign country to help him cheat to win an election is a clear and present danger to our free and fair elections and to our national security," he said.

Goldman is still giving his opening statement, but he'll come back to the idea of "clear and present danger," according to a copy of his prepared remarks.

Ahead of drafting articles of impeachment, the House Judiciary Committee will examine the evidence gathered so far in the impeachment inquiry.

The House Judiciary Committee will hold its second public impeachment hearing Monday, following its first last week, which addressed what constitutes an impeachable offense.
