Iraqi social media star Ghufran Sawadi, better known as Umm Fahad, was shot dead outside her home in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, on Friday night, a Baghdad police source told CNN.

The attack took place in the Zayouna area east of Baghdad, and was captured on video by a surveillance camera and shared on social media. The video shows a gunman riding a motorcycle shooting and killing Sawadi on the spot. A Baghdad police source confirmed the authenticity of the video to CNN.

Things are starting to get dicey at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad after months of missile attacks from Iranian backed groups and political unrest in the country against the current government. 

According to reports on the ground, U.S. Embassy personnel are being evacuated by helicopter as the situation rapidly deteriorates. 

No official word yet from the White House of State Department about the status of Americans inside the Baghdad Green Zone. 

The U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad was hit by three rockets on Sunday. One person sustained minor injuries, a U.S. official told CNN. Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, where the embassy is located, has come under rocket attack several times in the last few months and was the site of large protests of U.S. airstrikes against Iranian-backed militias in December. No one has claimed responsibility for the latest attack.

Three rockets reportedly hit the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad on Sunday, minorly injuring one person, a U.S. official told CNN.

A State Department spokesperson told The Hill on Sunday that they ā€œare aware of reports of rockets landing in the International Zoneā€ but did not mention the embassy or whether employees were injured.

ā€œThe security situation remains tense and Iranian-backed armed groups remain a threat. So, we remain vigilant," the spokesperson said, requesting the Iraqi government get involved to protect ā€œdiplomatic facilities.ā€

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad was struck by at least one rocket Sunday evening in the latest attack on American targets in Iraq, a senior U.S. official confirmed to Fox News.

The official said all Pentagon officials are safe and accounted for. There were no reported deaths or injuries.

ā€œThe security situation remains tense and Iranian-backed armed groups remain a threat. So, we remain vigilant,ā€ a State Department spokesperson told Fox News.

Baghdad, Iraq (CNN)Twelve people were killed and 230 others injured in protests in Iraq over the past three days, the Independent High Commission for Human Rights of Iraq said Sunday.

Nine protesters were killed in the capital Baghdad and three others in the southern city of Nasiriyah, about 350 km south of Baghdad, according to the statement.
More than 600 people have been killed in anti-government demonstrations that started in October, according to the IHCHR and Amnesty International.

The Iraqi military and the US-led coalition have denied that a US air strike had taken place on a medical convoy in Taji, north of Baghdad, afrer reports emerged that an attack killed at least six people.

Earlier on Saturday, Iraq's state television said an attack took place along Taji Road and that it was targeting a convoy of an Iran-backed militia, but later, Iraq's military denied the reports.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo started having a tough 2020 only one day into the new year. He was forced to postpone his trip to Kyiv, Ukraine, this week to attend to the new crisis in Iraq. As fraught as Pompeo’s visit to Kyiv was going to be, in the shadow of the impeachment battle, Iraq trumped Kyiv after the New Year’s Eve attack on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.
