Two of the most progressive Democrats in the House of Representatives led a small delegation on an undisclosed trip to Cuba last week to discuss "human rights," despite the worsening border crisis affecting everyday Americans here at home, according to a new report late Tuesday.

The top progressive lawmaker in the House is being criticized by fellow Democrats for downplaying Hamas terrorists’ reported sexual violence against Israeli women. 

Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., was accused of trying to find a moral equivalence between Hamas and the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) during a Sunday television interview.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), told reporters on Monday Democratic leaders "need to do something" about such remarks from their members.

Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) is coming down strongly on the side of those who think President Biden should run for a second White House term in 2024.

“He was not my first or second choice for president, but I am a convert. I never thought I would say this, but I believe he should run for another term and finish this agenda we laid out,” Jayapal told Politico in an interview published Monday. 

House progressives are backtracking on a letter they sent to President Biden asking him to directly negotiate with Russia to end the conflict in Ukraine.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus issued an apology and clarification Monday, noting that the bloc wanted to avoid the impression that they supported House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s recent insinuation that a GOP-controlled Congress would discontinue aid to war-battered Ukraine.

Progressives worked over the summer to get nearly three dozen House Democrats to sign off on a letter that would call into question President Biden’s handling of Ukraine and urge him to engage diplomatically with Russia, according to two sources directly familiar with the negotiations. 

At the time, the midterms were on the back burner, according to both sources, who said the group of lawmakers didn’t have Nov. 8 on their minds at all when they crafted their request.
