While the border crisis has become a major liability for President Biden, threatening his reelection chances, it’s become a huge boon to a group of nonprofits getting rich off government contracts.

Although the federally funded Unaccompanied Children Program is responsible for resettling unaccompanied migrant minors who enter the U.S., it delegates much of the task to nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that run shelters in the border states of Texas, Arizona, and California.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Youngstown Foundation announced $2.7 million in grants supporting 18 nonprofit organization projects on Monday.

Of the 18 recipients, the ACLD School and Learning Center in Youngstown will receive $250,000 to build a 4,500-square-foot addition to its building at 118 E. Wood Street north of downtown, according to a press release from the Youngstown Foundation.

ACLD has served local children who struggle to learn since 1968.

Today, Miles Scott is a healthy teenager with a passion for baseball. He plays catcher for his high school in Tulelake, Calif.

"I wear all-black in baseball," Miles said. "So the dugout's always screaming 'Batkid! Batkid!'"

Ten years ago, the then-5-year-old Miles won hearts both in his hometown and around the world when he transformed into the black-clad superhero Batkid for a day, becoming an instant media sensation.

San Francisco recently saw a new civic pride campaign go live as part of a bid by business leaders seeking to help the Bay Area city.

Advance SF, the non-profit behind the campaign, said in a press release it aimed to "assert San Francisco’s role as an innovative and thriving hub for business and the arts" and to tout the city as one of the greatest in the world with the new "It All Starts Here" ad campaign. It began last week.

Global Press Journal is, to read its marketing materials, among the most widely read publications in the United States. According to a 2021 survey conducted for the Global Press Institute, the nonprofit that operates it, Global Press Journal was the international news source of choice of 8% of Americans who regularly read international news, on par with The Guardian and The Economist.

Sam Bankman-Fried and FTX doled out millions in charitable donations. Now, new management is asking for it back.

Some of the money, however, has already been spent, and the gifts flowed through myriad sources and agreements that are proving difficult to tally.

Mr. Bankman-Fried, FTX and its affiliates used stolen customer money to pour billions of dollars into risky wagers that imploded, according to federal prosecutors and regulators. The company collapsed into bankruptcy in November.

Gov. Greg Abbott says he’s sending a message to President Joe Biden by busing thousands of migrants from Texas border towns to D.C. But so far, it’s neither the Biden administration nor local officials who have borne the brunt of Abbott’s gambit.

A network of local aid groups and faith organizations have spent the past four months scrambling to build the type of infrastructure that has long existed along the Texas border, where non-government organizations regularly receive asylum seekers, offer them short-term assistance and help them get to their sponsors in the U.S.
