Social media influencer Kai Cenat will not be prosecuted on charges of inciting a riot and unlawful assembly connected to a chaotic giveaway he promoted in New York City’s Union Square last year, which resulted in dozens of arrests, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said. Cenat posted a public apology to social media and has agreed to pay $55,000 in restitution after the riotous crowd of thousands of people damaged landscaping in Union Square, prosecutors said. The district attorney’s office said it will officially dismiss the case after the apology...

"Wild Times": Sam Altman Joins Microsoft As OpenAI Taps Ex-Twitch CEO Microsoft shares climbed 2.7% in premarket trading, approaching a new record high, following the announcement that OpenAI co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman will head a new cutting-edge AI research division for the tech giant. This development is particularly surprising given that Altman was dismissed from OpenAI just last week, with Emmett Shear, the co-founder of Twitch, a video streaming platform, stepping in as the interim CEO overnight, The Wall Street Journal reported.

After a flurry of weekend negotiations, Microsoft said it hired Sam Altman — just two days after the board of OpenAI ousted him as CEO — while OpenAI recruited Emmett Shear, most recently chief executive of livestreaming platform Twitch, to step into the CEO role. Microsoft previously announced plans to invest billions over several...

Shear cofounded livestreaming platform Twitch, which sold to Amazon for nearly $1 billion in 2014. He stepped down as CEO in March, ending a 16 year run at Twitch, citing the birth of his first child. Shear moved in some of the same Silicon Valley circles as the CEO whose shoes he must now fill. In 2011, Shear and Altman both were named part-time partners at the same time for the startup incubator Y Combinator, which Altman later on went on to lead. Shear is a self-described techno-optimist, but has...

Cenat announced on Twitch that he would give away free video game consoles, headphones and other items to fans on Friday, Aug. 4 at Union Square. Hundreds of fans arrived early for the event, and the crowd rapidly got out of hand before Cenat’s arrival. The New York Police Department (NYPD) said that the crowd grew to a “couple thousand people” by 4 p.m. Fans reportedly threw...

The New York Metropolis Police Division on Sunday launched 4 new pictures and requested the general public for assist figuring out extra suspects within the huge riot involving hundreds of teenagers who swarmed Manhattan’s Union Sq. after Twitch influencer Kai Cenat marketed an unsanctioned PlayStation giveaway. NYPD Crime Stoppers mentioned these depicted within the pictures had been needed for legal mischief. At roughly 3:50 p.m. Friday, police mentioned the suspects prompted harm to autos by kicking and leaping on them whereas they had been parked within the space of 14th...

The alleged instigator of the mayhem — Kai Cenat, who has 6.5 million followers on the gaming site Twitch and four million on YouTube — was freed with a desk appearance ticket on a low-level, Class E...
