The rain had passed, and the June sun shined down on the Badlands. The pastures of John Hanson’s 11,000 acres ran green between the sandstone buttes that dotted the land. Hanson, sat in the back of an F-150 truck next to Beau Bateman. John’s kid brother Ted was driving, a rifle by his side. All three have been friends of Doug Burgum’s for nearly half a century.

Partway through his latest ā€œMeet the Pressā€ appearance, Gov. Doug Burgum tried to impress one viewer in particular with a bizarre claim. ā€œDonald Trump, at the end of his term on January 20th, left the White House,ā€ the North Dakota Republican claimed. ā€œWe had a smooth transition.ā€

We did not have a smooth transition.

Donald Trump's running mate for the presidential election will likely be male, according to booking odds, which may come as a surprise following predictions that he will choose a woman.

The former president and GOP 2024 presumptive nominee is yet to publicly announce who he will choose as his running mate in the presidential election but speculation has increased over the last few weeks and months about who it could be.

Former President Donald Trump has narrowed down his vice presidential short list to seven candidates, or so it seems based on who reportedly received vetting materials from the campaign.

Trump is unpredictable and his pick of former Vice President Mike Pence was largely kept under wraps before the announcement. But there are some useful insights to be gleaned from the reported veepstakes semifinalists.

Former President Trump has requested financial and other documents from eight potential VP picks as he formalizes his vetting, an official tells Axios.

The intrigue: Some candidates got more extensive paperwork requests than others — a possible clue to how hotly they're being considered.

The contenders, in no particular order:

Political allies of former President Donald Trump, many of whom are possibly jockeying for future positions with him, have begun to attend his New York hush money criminal trial as it enters its fourth week, highlighting how Trump has attempted to make New York his campaign stomping grounds in the wake of his required court attendance.

North Dakota Gov. and former presidential candidate Doug Burgum was front and center at Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, on Saturday, fueling speculation he remains a contender on the increasingly short list of potential running mates.

Burgum was a guest on Trump’s "Trump Force One" campaign plan. He briefly addressed the crowd before the former president took the stage.

Bergum said working with President Trump was "like having a beautiful breeze at your back."

Former President Donald Trump has laid out the most concrete timeline yet for when he might select his running mate for the 2024 Republican ticket.

ā€œI’ll be picking, but probably not too much before the convention, which I happen to be having in the great state of Wisconsin,ā€ the presumptive GOP nominee told FOX 6 Milwaukee during a campaign visit to the battleground state Wednesday.

At some point in the next several months, Donald Trump—having parted ways with his veep, whom he almost got killed—is going to have to announce a 2024 running mate. Who is the lucky lady, or lad, going to be? No one, including the GOP presidential candidate himself, seems to know. The short list, a Trump adviser told The Washington Post, is ā€œgrowing, not shrinking,ā€ and the ex-president continues to come up with new names for consideration. But he definitely has some requirements that narrow the field of potential candidates. According...
