Congress certified President-elect Joe Biden's victory shortly before 4:00 a.m. ET Thursday. After the official certification, President Donald Trump released a statement saying "there will be an orderly transition" on Jan. 20, while also maintaining unsubstantiated claims of decisive voter fraud. The conclusions followed chaos in Washington D.C. Wednesday, as Trump supporters breached the U.S. Capitol building and forced an abrupt adjournment of the vote count. One woman was reportedly killed by gunfire from Capitol police during the mayhem.
Coverage of the confirmation from left-rated sources often emphasized Wednesday's violence in the context of Trump's voter fraud claims and rallying of his supporters. Some reports from right-rated sources concentrated on Trump's apparent concession, and allegations that Capitol security was woefully unprepared to deal with the breach.
