President Joe Biden Tuesday outlined his administration's latest approach to the COVID-19 vaccine effort amid the spread of the Delta variant. The administration's strategy includes "door-to-door" community outreach, vaccinating students ages 12-18 before school opens this fall, and increasing vaccine availability in doctor’s offices and workplaces. This comes after the U.S. failed to meet the Biden's goal of 70% of U.S. adults vaccinated by July 4; According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, just under half of the U.S. population is expected to be fully vaccinated by the end of the week. All vaccines approved for emergency use in the U.S. are reportedly effective against the Delta variant.

Biden's speech Tuesday received wide coverage from across the spectrum. Coverage from right-rated outlets tended to lead with the administration's "door-to-door" approach in their headlines. Left- and center-rated outlets tended to focus more broadly on the administration's strategy.

With the pace of U.S. coronavirus vaccinations relatively flat, President Biden called on Tuesday for employers to set up clinics at work and to offer paid time off for workers as part of a renewed push to reach tens of millions of Americans who remain unvaccinated.

“Please get vaccinated now — it works, it’s free, it’s never been easier,” Mr. Biden said in brief remarks. “It’s never been more important. Do it now for yourself and the people you care about — for your neighborhood, for your country. It sounds corny, but it’s a patriotic thing to do.”

President Joe Biden on Tuesday once again pushed for all eligible Americans to get Covid vaccinations, stressing the importance of being protected against the highly transmissible delta variant.

Despite the U.S. being on track to hit 160 million people fully vaccinated in the coming days, Biden said, millions remain unvaccinated against Covid, “and because of that, their communities are at risk, their friends are at risk, the people they care about are at risk.”

“This is an even bigger concern because of the delta variant,” the president said.
