The Eagles could be about to take another big front-office hit this offseason. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday night that the Patriots are interviewing Brandon Hunt, the team’s director of scouting, for the lead personnel job in New England. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer also reported the news and said the interview will take place Wednesday in Foxboro, Mass. Hunt, a scout for two decades with three different teams, joined the Eagles during the 2022 offseason as the director of scouting. Prior to that, he spent 12 seasons as the pro...

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Erik Karlsson scored 1:40 into overtime and the Pittsburgh Penguins bolstered their playoff odds with a 6-5 win over Detroit on Thursday night. Sidney Crosby set up Karlsson’s winner to become the 14th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career assists. Crosby finished with a goal and two assists to move past Hall of Famer Phil Esposito and into 10th on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. The longtime Penguins captain assisted on Drew O’Connor’s first-period goal to reach 999 career assists. Crosby then redirected a beautiful...

The Giants are casting Jordan Phillips in the role previously filled by A’Shawn Robinson. General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll dipped into their Bills roots Thursday and signed Phillips to provide defensive-line depth. Phillips, 31, has started 62 of 120 games over a nine-year career that includes parts of four seasons in Buffalo. Giants assistant director of player personnel Dennis Hickey was the Dolphins general manager who used a second-round draft pick on Phillips in 2015. The interior defensive line arguably was the Giants’ biggest strength entering...

The Buffalo Bills got blitzed on social media for not acknowledging the death of O.J. Simpson, who was arguably the franchise’s best and most notorious player. Before Simpson died from cancer on Wednesday, he was celebrated as one of the best running backs the National Football League has known. When he retired from professional football in 1979, Simpson was the NFL’s second leading rusher of all-time. He spent nine of his 11 years playing in Buffalo. Simpson is also one of the best-known double-murder defendants of all time, though he...

ā€œSome kid in the locker room looked at his cellphone and said, ā€˜Hey, O.J. just died. One of the most famous people in America,ā€™ā€ Militello told The Buffalo News. ā€œI thought that was strange, because for some reason, I was thinking about O.J. all morning. I thought about him at the very moment I woke up, and I thought about him again while driving to the gym. ā€œI spoke to him around Christmas, and I knew he was sick, so I wasn’t shocked. This is a sad day. I’m thinking...

A fabricated image of characters from the animated television series The Simpsons viewing a collapsed bridge and a large ship has been widely shared on social media with the false suggestion that the show predicted the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge in March. The image shows signs of having been made with AI and an executive producer for the series told Reuters that the image is fake as the show never had an episode where a container ship hits a bridge. The Francis Key Scott bridge, which stood...

The Justice Department has indicated in a court filing Friday that it is intending to seek the death penalty for Buffalo supermarket shooter Payton Gendron.

Gendron, 20, is already serving a sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole after he pleaded guilty to state charges of murder and hate-motivated domestic terrorism in the May 2022 attack that left 10 Black people dead at a Tops grocery store.

Payton Gendron, the white supremacist who killed 10 Black people at a Buffalo supermarket, may be facing his own death after federal prosecutors announced Friday they intend to seek capital punishment.

It marks the first time the Justice Department under President Joe Biden has authorized a new attempt at the death penalty. While the state of New York does not have capital punishment, the department received an opportunity to seek the penalty in a separate federal hate crimes case against Gendron.

The US federal government is seeking the death penalty for a white gunman who killed 10 people in a racially-motivated 2022 shooting.

The US Department of Justice, in a Biden administration first, said capital punishment is warranted due to the shooting's effect on victims.

Payton Gendron, 20, was sentenced to life in prison last year for the Buffalo, New York, shooting.

Gendron has said he killed people that day "because they were black".
