The Detroit People Mover (DPM) will close for about 11 weeks after Labor Day for track improvements, officials say this week. According to the DPM, the project will replace about 7,000 feet of track on nine curves and adjacent connect straight track along the DPM route. It's about 20% of the track on the 2.9-mile loop. Officials say contractors will remove and replace sections with new track. Officials say this is the third rail replacement project in the history of the DPM, with others in 2008 and 2016, but this...

Beginning after Labor Day, the Detroit People Mover tram will close for nearly three months, so crews can replace sections of track that are in need of improvement. In operation for 37 years, the tram has always undergone routine maintenance with measurements of the columns and rail sections continually done to ensure it's running appropriately. The people mover expects to reopen just before Thanksgiving. The goal behind replacing the track sections is to extend the life of the system's infrastructure while also producing a smoother and quieter ride for passengers....

An average of 4,000 passengers ride Detroit’s People Mover every day. In September, the 2.9-mile, one-way rail system in downtown Detroit will shut down to replace a portion of original tracks that are 37 years old. Beginning after Labor Day, construction is estimated to last around 11 weeks, with a planned reopening in November before Thanksgiving Day. Almost 7,000 feet of rail — about 20% of the track — is being replaced on nine curves and connecting straight sections along the Detroit People Mover route. The rest of the system...

Detroit's People Mover will stop moving downtown workers and visitors for 11 weeks starting in September while the city replaces about 7,000 feet of rail on the 37-year-old elevated train. The rail set for replacement makes up about 20% of the 2.9 miles of track on the People Mover route, according to the Detroit Transportation Corporation, the agency that operates the system. The work will take place on nine curves and adjacent straight track. The city estimates the project will cost nearly $5 million, using federal and state grant funds....

The Detroit People Mover will shut down for 11 weeks after Labor Day to replace sections of track that are original to the 37-year-old system, according to a recent announcement. The system, which is free to ride at least through the end of next year, is expected to reopen before Thanksgiving, and the Detroit Transportation Corp., the entity that oversees the system, has scheduled in-person and virtual public hearings July 25 and 30. The almost $5 million project, which is to be covered through state and federal grants, is part...
