Chase Oliver won the Libertarian Party presidential nomination on Sunday after seven rounds of voting at the party’s convention in Washington, DC.

The 38-year-old, who has previously run for Congress multiple times in Georgia, focused his pitch on making Libertarian values palatable to a broader audience.

In an interview with CNN following his nomination, Oliver said he believes earning 2% of the vote nationally in November’s general election is a reasonable goal.

The Libertarian Party nominated Chase Oliver as its 2024 presidential candidate after a protracted nomination vote on Sunday, solidifying the ticket for a voter base that could play spoiler this November.

Oliver, who was a critical spoiler candidate in the 2022 Georgia Senate race that led to the election of Sen. Rafael Warnock (D) by forcing a runoff, aligns himself with the traditional wing of the Libertarian Party.

The Libertarian Party nominated political activist Chase Oliver as its nominee for president at its convention Sunday, rejecting former President Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s long-shot bids for the party's nomination.

Oliver secured the nomination in the seventh round of voting after sitting in second place for the first five rounds. He received nearly 60% of the vote in the final round, finally clearing the 50% threshold required for victory, with his final opponent being the "none of the above" option.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. targeted former President Trump over his administration’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, as he spoke to Libertarians during their party convention Friday.  

Kennedy argued that the former president and his administration had violated people’s First Amendment rights when they instituted health guidelines to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Some Libertarian Party leaders are fuming over the party’s decision to have former president Donald Trump headline their national convention this month, with national committee members calling on the party to rescind the invitation.
