Israeli air strikes hit rebel-held Sanaa's international airport and other targets in Yemen on Thursday as the head of the UN's World Health Organization said he and his team prepared to fly out. Yemen's civil aviation authority said the airport planned to reopen on Friday after the strikes that it said occurred while the UN aircraft "was getting ready for its scheduled flight". The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether they knew at the time that WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was there....

United Nations chief António Guterres called on Israel and militants in Yemen to cease their military actions and use restraint, after an Israeli strike hit the international airport in Sanaa just as World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was about to board a flight there. The attack killed at least three people at the airport, according to local media, and injured a World Food Program-contracted aircrew member among dozens of others.

Houthi media says three people were killed in the attacks on the airport and another three were killed after Israel hit the key port city of Hodeidah. A wave of Israeli air attacks hit Yemen’s main airport just as the World Health Organization’s director-general said he was about to board a flight there, wounding one of the United Nations plane’s crew, the WHO chief has said. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X that he was just metres away from the attack on Sanaa airport on Thursday. “As...

A team from the World Health Organization (WHO), including its director-general, came under fire in an Israeli attack on the international airport in Yemen's capital on Thursday. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the bombardment occurred nearby as he prepared to board a flight in Sanaa, with a crew member injured. "The air traffic control tower, the departure lounge – just a few meters from where we were – and the runway were damaged," Ghebreyesus said on the social media platform X. He added that he and his U.N. colleagues...

The head of the World Health Organization, who was at the Sanaa airport in Yemen amid an Israeli bombardment on Thursday, said there was damage to infrastructure but he remained safe.

"One of our plane's crew members was injured. At least two people were reported killed at the airport," Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus posted on X, adding that other UN staff were also safe but their departure was delayed until repairs could be made.
