BOGOTA, Colombia -- Colombian migrants returning home Tuesday on Colombian military flights described being shackled during earlier U.S. flights that were blocked by their country's leader in a dispute with President Donald Trump that nearly sparked a trade war. Deportation flights between the U.S. and Colombia resumed Tuesday after the diplomatic drama over the weekend that provided clues as to how the Trump administration would deal with countries blocking large-scale plans to return migrants who entered illegally. Colombia's President Gustavo Petro initially refused to accept two U.S.

Gustavo Petro, the current president of Colombia, is an unpopular guy in his home country, with a 26% public approval rating. A radical socialist with the Hugo Chavez bug in him, he's made a shambles of its economy, and is gradually dismantling the country's democratic institutions. Now he's made the mistake of messing with President Trump over repatriation flights for Colombia's illegals, which he had actually approved in advance -- and the response was swift. WASHINGTON/BOGOTA (Reuters) -President Donald Trump said on Sunday he would impose sweeping retaliatory measures on...

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) - Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Sunday said that his government wouldn't accept flights carrying migrants deported from the United States until the Trump administration creates a protocol that treats them with "dignity." Trump orders 25% tariffs on all goods from Colombia after 2 deportation flights were rejected At least one Republican is very unhappy at the news. DC RUMORS: Trump announces immediate retaliation against Colombia after their president turns back deportation flights. He’s going to put tariffs on cocaine.

President Donald said he was imposing "emergency" tariffs and other measures on Colombia after the country turned away at least two deportation flights. In an angry on Sunday, Trump revealed that the flights "were not allowed to land in Colombia." He accused Colombian President President Gustavo Petro of jeopardizing "the National Security and Public Safety of the United States." "So I have directed my Administration to immediately take the following urgent and decisive retaliatory measures," Trump stated.

Update: that may have been the fastest trade war capitulation in history: • COLOMBIA OFFERS PRESIDENTIAL PLANE TO HELP REPATRIATE DEPORTEES FROM US: CNN For those in the market breathing repeated sighs of relief that Trump has - so far - not imposed sanctions on China or any other major country, we have some news, just wait. Case in point: on Saturday afternoon, one day after Colombia's president Gustavo Petro refused to allow two military flights from the United States full of undocumented migrants to land on its soil, President...

President Donald Trump pushed back on Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Sunday after Petro's regime refused to allow U.S. deportation flights to land in his country. "I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia. This order was given by Colombia’s Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people," Trump wrote on social media. "Petro’s denial of these flights has jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the...

President Donald Trump slapped tariffs and travel bans on Colombia on Sunday, after the South American country refused to allow two planes of undocumented migrants to land on its soil.

UPDATES with White House on flights to Mexico, Mexican foreign ministry US military planes carrying dozens of expelled migrants arrived in Guatemala, authorities said Friday, as President Donald Trump moved to crack down on illegal immigration. A total of 265 Guatemalans arrived on three flights -- two operated by the military, and one a charter, the Central American country's migration institute said, updating earlier figures.

Mexico reportedly denied land access to a U.S. military plane slated to transport illegal immigrants to the country this week, a move highlighting tensions between the United States and its southern neighbor as the Trump administration continues to crack down on illegal migrants. Citing two U.S. defense officials and a third person familiar with the situation, NBC News reported that two Air Force C-17s bound for Guatemala carrying about 80 people each flew deportees Thursday night out of the U.S. A third flight bound for Mexico never took off after...

WASHINGTON/MEXICO CITY, Jan 24 (Reuters) - Mexico has refused a request from President Donald Trump's administration to allow a U.S. military aircraft deporting migrants to land in the country, a U.S. official and a Mexican official told Reuters. U.S. military aircraft carried out two similar flights, each with about 80 migrants, to Guatemala on Friday. The government was not able to move ahead with a plan to have a C-17 transport aircraft land in Mexico, however, after the country denied permission. A U.S. official and a Mexican official confirmed the...
