On Friday night, President Trump fired over a dozen independent inspectors general across federal agencies. The move appears to violate a federal law that requires the president to give Congress 30 days’ notice before firing an inspector general confirmed by the Senate. A group of House Democrats wrote a letter to Trump demanding he reverse the purge, saying it is ā€œantithetical to good government [and] undermines the proper stewardship of taxpayer dollars.ā€

Trump Fires 'Virtually Worthless' Inspectors General, Liz Warren Freaks Out Over 'Purge' President Donald Trump fired at least a dozen 'independent' watchdogs known as inspectors general, who oversee government agencies - prompting immediate shrieking from the usual suspects who insist that the move is illegal. REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque The ousters are likely to be one of Trump's first major court battles since taking office - with at least one of the fired inspectors general, Cardell Richardson Sr. of the State Department - telling staff he'll ignore Trump and show up to...

The MSM is up in arms about Donald Trump’s firing of at least a dozen Inspectors General (ā€œIGsā€), calling it a ā€œlate-night purgeā€œ and alleging President Trump is dismantling checks on his power. Democrats in Congress are loudly declaring that President Trump broke the law. The idea of separation of powers in government concerns the three branches of government: legislative, executive, and judicial. But what about the separation of powers within the executive branch? Not a thing. The left asserts that President Trump’s decision to fire these public officials was...

The way the wave of terminations was done surprised many in the IG community. The email ousting at least one top federal watchdog from their post was so short, it could fit in a tweet. The two-sentence long letter to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Inspector General Christi Grimm cited ā€œchanging prioritiesā€ under the President Donald Trump's new administration, according to a copy of the note obtained by ABC News. ā€œOn behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that due to changing priorities...

The ā€œfiredā€ people have written back to Trump pointing out that his order to terminate them was illegal, and they’ll be coming back to work. That’s good news. We have seen all too much acquiescence in Trump’s lawless and destructive launch of this new Presidency. America needs to stop Trump, which means either defeating him or making him earn every inch of his assault on the Rule of Law. These Inspectors-General — who will hang onto their jobs as long as they can, because they understand that their oversight provides...

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said President Donald Trump ā€œtechnicallyā€ violated the law by terminating more than a dozen inspectors general in a Friday night firing spree without notifying Congress as required by law. Graham at first said the president acted lawfully before quickly correcting himself during a Sunday interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker on Meet the Press. The South Carolina Republican ultimately concluded that Trump’s violation of the law was justified because he has the ā€œauthorityā€ to make personnel decisions. Welker said, ā€œLet me ask you finally, on Friday night...

WASHINGTON -- The Trump administration has fired about 17 independent inspectors general at government agencies, a sweeping action to remove oversight of his new administration that some members of Congress are suggesting violated federal oversight laws. The dismissals began Friday night and were effective immediately, according to two people familiar with the actions. They spoke on condition of anonymity to provide details that have not been made public.

President Donald Trump defended his firing of at least a dozen inspectors general at federal agencies, a sudden late-night purge of independent officials assigned to root out mismanagement and illegal acts in the US government.

ā€œIt’s a very common thing to do,ā€ Trump told reporters on Air Force One as he returned to Florida following a tour of disaster areas and a Las Vegas rally.
