After Tulsi Gabbard’s tense three-hour confirmation hearing Thursday, Democratic members of the Select Intelligence Committee remained bitterly opposed to President Donald Trump’s nominee for director of national intelligence. Gabbard—like fellow Trump nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr.—is a former Democrat who curiously faces a more difficult confirmation process than lifelong Republicans, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Homeland Security chief Kristi Noem. One such Democrat is Sen.

CONFIRMATION BIAS — Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) shocked Washington in 2017 with her mysterious meeting with then-Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, she’s arguably been sympathetic to various planks of Russia’s arguments for invasion. She’s President Donald Trump’s nominee for director of national intelligence, but has limited experience as a member of the intelligence community.

Tulsi Gabbard, President Donald Trump’s intelligence director nominee, walked back some of her past defenses of foreign adversaries and criticism of U.S. government surveillance but repeatedly refused to call CIA leaker Edward Snowden a "traitor" in a combative confirmation hearing on Thursday. Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman who became a Trump ally in recent years, defended her loyalty to the United States and her military background and vowed that she would speak "truth to power" during her Senate Intelligence Committee hearing.

Hours before Tulsi Gabbard appeared for a combative hearing on her nomination as director of national intelligence on Thursday, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden gave some public advice to the woman who once pushed for his pardon. “Tulsi Gabbard will be required to disown all prior support for whistleblowers as a condition of confirmation today. I encourage her to do so. Tell them I harmed national security and the sweet, soft feelings of staff. In D.C., that’s what passes for the pledge of allegiance,” Snowden said on X. Even after facing...

For decades, I traveled and volunteered in India freely, distributing food, clothing, and other vital supplies as part of charity work sponsored by my church in Tennessee. When I returned in October 2019, I expected the visit to be no different. But immediately upon my arrival, my documents were confiscated and I was imprisoned for 6 days in a dark cell. For the next 7 months, I was prevented from leaving India. My crime? Being Christian. Held on spurious charges, the real reason I was targeted was because I like...

WASHINGTON, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard, President Donald Trump's choice to be Director of National Intelligence, will face tough questioning on Russia, Syria and surveillance at what is expected to be contentious Senate hearing on Thursday. Both Republicans and Democrats have expressed doubts about the choice of Gabbard, a 43-year-old former Democrat and combat veteran with little intelligence experience, to serve as the nation's top spy overseeing all 18 U.S. intelligence agencies.

President Donald Trump was elected with a mandate to deliver bold change in Washington, and his choice of former Rep. and Lt. Col. Tulsi Gabbard to be the director of national intelligence does just that. After four years of former President Joe Biden’s appeasement toward the world’s most evil and dangerous dictators and failed policy that weakened America’s standing on the world stage, the United States today faces historically severe threats from around the globe. Former FBI Director Christopher Wray even admitted that terrorist threats were elevated under the Biden...

As it weighs the nomination of Tulsi Gabbard for the position of Director of National Intelligence, the United States Senate faces a fundamental choice: Should it reject those like Gabbard who challenge conventional wisdom, or should it recognize that sensibly questioning orthodox views is essential to avoid the kinds of intelligence and foreign policy failures we have experienced in such places as Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, and Ukraine?
