President Trump ordered federal agencies to jettison 10 regulations for every new one established, hearkening back to a move he made during his first stint in the White House. 

The president on Friday signed an executive order, dubbed “Unleashing Prosperity Through Deregulation,” that whenever an agency creates a rule, it must find 10 old rules, regulations or guidance documents to ditch.

The Food and Drug Administration has announced it will ban the use of artificial food coloring Red No. 3, which has been linked to thyroid cancer in animals, after years of prodding by parents and health advocates, one state ban and action by dozens of other countries.

Food and Drug Administration officials granted a 2022 petition filed by two dozen food safety and health advocates, who urged the agency to revoke authorization for the substance that gives some candies, snack cakes, and maraschino cherries a bright red hue.

Billionaire Elon Musk has walked back a prior claim that his vaunted blue ribbon commission on government bloat and inefficiencies would be able to slash the roughly $6.75 trillion annual federal budget by $2 trillion.

Elon Musk, who U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has tapped to oversee a government cost-cutting effort, acknowledged that his declared goal of cutting $2 trillion in spending from the $6.8 trillion federal budget would be a long shot.

"I think if we try for 2 trillion, we've got a good shot at getting 1," Musk, the world's richest person, said in a discussion on Wednesday with Mark Penn, a political strategist and former pollster. He described the $2 trillion target as a "best-case outcome."
