The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to weigh in on the constitutionality of Colorado’s ban on ā€œconversion therapyā€ – that is, the effort to ā€œconvertā€ someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity. That announcement came as part of a list of orders released on Monday morning from the justices’ private conference last week.

The Supreme Court said on Monday that it would not hear a First Amendment challenge to a Washington State law banning professional counseling services intended to change a minor’s gender identity or sexual orientation.

Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel A. Alito Jr. and Brett M. Kavanaugh dissented.

A divided Supreme Court declined on Monday to decide whether a Washington state law that prohibits licensed therapists from practicing conversion therapy on children violates the First Amendment. The announcement was part of a list of orders released from the justices’ private conference on Friday. The justices granted one new case from that conference, involving the power of federal courts to review a federal employee’s case after he missed a filing deadline, on Friday afternoon.

The Supreme Court declined to take up a case seeking to overturn Washington state's ban on the practice of conversion therapy for minors who say they are gay or lesbian, prompting the court's most conservative members to say they would have granted it.

Despite three dissents from Republican-appointed Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, and Brett Kavanaugh, the majority on the bench decided to leave intact Washington state's ban on engaging LGBT minors in conversion therapy, which mirrors similar restrictions in 20 other states.

The Supreme Court on Monday let stand a Washington state law prohibiting licensed health care professionals from practicing ā€œconversion therapyā€ – a scientifically discredited practice intended to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity – as it applies to minors.

Critics say the practice – which attempts to convert people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning – into straight or cisgender people, causes serious emotional harm and can have deadly results.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden issued an executive order Wednesday to stymie what what his administration calls discriminatory legislative attacks on the LGBTQ community by Republican-controlled states, declaring before a signing ceremony packed with activists, ā€œpride is back at the White House.ā€

Vice President Mike Pence was selected to lead the country's response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak during a press conference on Wednesday, in spite of a rocky reputation when it comes to health related matters.

In response to Trump's decision to name Pence "Coronavirus Czar," Brian Schatz, a Democratic Senator for Hawaii, tweeted some of the most anti-science opinions voiced by the VP over the years, from rejecting climate science to saying smoking does not kill.

The founder of one of the nation’s largest conversion therapy programs has announced that he’s gay — and disavowed the ā€œharmfulā€ practice.

McKrae Game, who led the faith-based conversion therapy group Hope for Wholeness in South Carolina for nearly two decades, came out of the closet this summer at 51, The Post and Courier reported Saturday.

ā€œConversion therapy is not just a lie, but it’s very harmful,ā€ Game told paper. ā€œBecause it’s false advertising.ā€

The revelation came two years after Game was abruptly fired from Hope for Wholeness.
